I disagree. It's not the scars, it's how you present/conduct yourself. On a good, well-turned out person, scars can look really distinguished. A friend of mine had a large facial scar and not only did he look good "in spite" of it, he wore it with a confidence that made it a FEATURE of his face (not a blemish).

TBF I could've been clearer! If it isn't going to happen then this sub is pointless. I refuse to accept that we cannot exact this positive change for men.

We are 100% agreed there friend. Though I'd hoped maybe, given my clarification/sentiment, people would have read between the lines on what wave feminist I was. Lesson learned indeed.

Hey, I wasn't saying everyone was! Just, occasionally a few commenters can get this way. This poll of opinion has become quite the wild ride indeed.

Your reply is a cogent breath of fresh air! I appreciate your writing it! And thank YOU for inviting ME into calm discussion - look at us building bridges! I agree with most everything you said, and any nitpick is probably more terminology than sentiment. To quote another commenter on here, when I say "feminism" - I mean the old school 'please let us vote' spiel. It is still desperately needed in some non-western countries. But here, right now, I agree men are met with such terrible resistance t…

Dude, I'm exactly the same. I'm trying to explain myself as an old school feminist here in the same manner as you, but I'm just digging myself a hole. An interesting take though: that the issue actually transcends any specific trait such as gender!

Not unaware no, just typing fast, and not thinking in that one moment. As I said, this appears to be a battle of semantics here. The actually harmful movement concerns me greatly, but I simply used a word that, in my own head, I often use as "shorthand". I once again apologise for leaving so much room for misunderstanding.

A good point well made, though I do wish the more aggressive people would maybe take a breather first haha. I don't type well/clearly under pressure! As a man (I assume) yourself, now I have you trapped in my "fiendish thread", what would you say is the root cause of their "incel spiral" as it were? You and I may disagree on minute details/semantics, but are still able to concede fault and discuss between our two sexes right here! Where/when do you think it may sometimes decay for these young me…

That is true and I will asceed that my slight upset shouldn't really play here. It is more the concern when it appears to disregard all women in terms of open discussion, though that is mercifully rare. I DEFINITELY agree with this. As stated in other comments, I think the word 'feminism' is just semantically different for me. Removing that word specifically, I am a 'pro female and male rights/gender equality' advocate. And in that ballpark we find ourselves in total agreement. The things I see …

I'm not calling you all out, silly. I'm asking your stance on those in the community who maybe appear to straddle this "incel" line? Where it develops? I'll never get a discussion on r/feminism about where crossing the "psycho-man-hater" line starts, we both know that. You seem very well read, and I'd like to hear how one might empathise at least with how these warped ideaologies start, where it stems from?

I think in this case it's devolved into a battle of semantics. I hope, in my posts, I've at least conveyed my stands on male and female rights, and we can at least find common ground on that: people should be treated equally. If the word "feminism" offends to the highest regard, we can call it something else - though the discussion about echo-chambering still stands if you'd like to offer your perspective on how this "incel" minority might develop? I still hope to find genuine ideas and viewpoin…

An interesting read to be sure - and in insightful one. I don't claim to gate-keep or define feminism, it's just, to me, a shorthand word I use in discussion. I apologise if the word held so many negative connotations despite my attempts to explain what I was trying to convey with the word. Rest assured though, I'm not just a net warrior - I have physically attended and supported all lobbies against some of the most deplorable of these things where I can, though location and lack of funds don't …

Thank you for such a thoughtful and well constructed reply. This is more the conversation I was in search of. A lot of people are currently dissecting my wording, and as a dyslexic it is becoming quite hard to keep up while watching my exact sentence structuring. I agree whole-heartedly. I think for me, I was wanting to probe at exactly this aspect of it - you often see people descend the "incel" ladder as easily they do other misguided ideologies. They often start from a genuine place, perhaps …

Hey folks, a lot of this conversation is dissolving into semantics, and in that sense little will be accomplished. Feminism as a word, to me, means the advocation of women's rights where they are lacking. So let's refer to my philosophy as 'equality of the sexes' or a similar synonym. A lot of people are getting hung on the perhaps misplaced word, and not the concept I'm attempting to convey. It's getting very difficult to reply to everyone right now, so I do apologise.

Feminism isn't the hill I will die on, trying to change people's minds within the movement, and reclaim a once noble concept, is what I will die on.

Nah mate, I didn't see any incitement of violence or anything. I literally said 'it isn't incredibly frequent or endemic in anyway' - you applied the hyperbole.
/r/MensRights29/08/19 02:46 AM

Well yes, I'm not going to let a bunch of hysterical idiots ruin a movement that originally did so much good. It may be fruitless, but it is the hill I will die on!

Hi Lethn, It's pretty late here for me now, and I got to stick to a pretty rigid time-schedule so I can sync my body-clock for the night shift. I'll try and get back to you sometime tomorrow evening (GMT). In the mean time, I'd suggest you maybe curb your levels of aggression - it's not condusive to the kind of reasoned, calm discussion I made this post in search of. You've made a lot of comments, and made some rather unfounded assumptions about me - I specifically note in my post that the comme…

Indeed. Some parts of the world women can't leave the house without wearing a burka. In the western world men get the short end of the stick in basically all legal procedings, and make up 75% of suicides. Feminism and advocating men's rights are two sides of the same coin: equality and calling out injustice and double standards.
/r/MensRights29/08/19 02:31 AM

Hi epalsliphead! Sorry, lots of people are demanding replies (or else I think I'm a terrible person??) so to quote what I said to another: "Honestly? A part of me was simply hoping to find friendlier discussion here. I don't need to tell you guys how insane these "hardcore feminists" can get. On forums and media prior to reddit, such as on social media and in fact in real life at my university, I had a lot of pretty awful shit thrown at me by these people. I was then blocked by a lot of them. I …

Hi there shit-zen-giggles (love the username). I actually watched a screening of the Red Pill and met Cassie - she was fantastic! Believe it or not, we had to go watch the documentary at a secret freaking location to avoid the hysterical protests! Honestly? A part of me was simply hoping to find friendlier discussion here. I don't need to tell you guys how insane these "hardcore feminists" can get. On forums and media prior to reddit, such as on social media and in fact in real life at my univer…

Hi there Lethn. Not at all. As I mentioned to another user I'm heavily invested in men's rights. The deplorable 'suck it up pussy' attitude directed at men drove one childhood friend to suicide - I do not take men's rights lightly. Which claims did you find ridiculous, I'm happy to chat and perhaps better word/explain my stance.
/r/MensRights29/08/19 02:23 AM

Hey dude, this is what I'm talking about. You immediately lump all feminists together and accuse me of calling you rapists and batterers...I never once said any of those things, and have done nothing to you. Why're you so aggressive to ME specifically? BUT to answer your questions: There is no dissonance. Feminism to me, is empowering women in areas they are treated sexistly. In parts of the world women could still be assaulted for not wearing a burka, for example. Men's rights to me, is about e…

Isn't this forum about open, calm discussion of issues? Echo chambers form when you don't let people play devil's advocate.

As devil's advocate, could it maybe be argued that this attitude stems from certain discrimination once directed towards women as well? While poor gay men got the shit beaten out of them, many people once viewed lesbianism as more or less a personality quirk, because women were not viewed as being sexual creatures (or even intelligent creatures) in the same way men were. Perhaps, in many places, it is still novel for people to picture a woman being just as sexual as a man because it became accep…
