Others have noted that you could look into BPD (specifically quiet BPD), but I would skip over diagnosing and say this with compassion: you would gain much by looking at the consequences of caregiver habits in the BPD relationship. You need to recognize how your patterns prolong such a cycle against your own good for so long. Your end goal should be a wholly new definition of ‘boundaries’ because you knew long ago you shouldn’t be in this relationship and why, but kept going despite the absolute…

I see you can’t afford therapy, but jFYI long-term Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or divorce are the only permanent options. Other than that, boundaries, parenting, audiobooks about BPD, and learning to maneuver around the whole “feelings over logic” mental gymnastics are the best bandaids…or just wait for them to run / divorce you - if they feel like you’ll abandon them, they’ll usually abandon you first. I agree with your hesitation - it’s helpful that the acronyms used to describe their people in that subreddit often start with “u” (undiagnosed) or “d” (diagnosed). That helps filter down the content. Then, assume that about 20% of the “diagnosed” ones probably aren’t. However, the final thing to consider is that most books about BPD begin by talking about how a significant number of people with BPD are not officially diagnosed. I’m assuming this conclusion is based on something like (for exampl…

Sure! It takes about 5 minutes to set up, and then each message only takes like 1-2 minutes to craft after that. I provided examples of how to communicate with chatGPT about your ex as well (hence my instructions seem longer than they really are). Initial Setup: Download the chatGPT app or create a chatGPT account here: https://chatgpt.com/auth/login You will start with a new chatGPT thread. Note- on the left panel, you can create other threads so you can have different chatGPT sessions that don…

Some might call this “walking on eggshells,” but for me, it’s the opposite…a straightforward way to keep my ex-wife out of my life and mind: I’m not good at gray-rocking, so I use a ChatGPT thread. It’s simple: I told it to assume my co-parenting ex-wife has borderline personality disorder, can’t handle long messages or complex sentences, manipulates examples/metaphors, and that I don’t want to encourage further communication with her. Whenever I need to text her about something potentially dram…

Bro seriously just spend an hour on r/BPDLovesones If your ex-wife has BPD, your jaw will drop a few times as you read your exact “unique” experiences written word-for-word by a dozen other people.

Ugh, been separated for 2ish months and this week I got mine to admit she was cheating before she left- she blamed me saying she waited until she lost hope in me. I wasn’t giving her hope since she had all the symptoms of someone monkey-branching and/or cheating on me. She said some cryptic things this week to give me hope…even knowing she was trying to keep me as plan B, my dumbass still reached out about reconciliation and got shot down hard. I like to think I’m done. Still “friends” for the k…

Thanks for the encouragement! Filing for divorce jointly within the next 2 weeks (in a no-fault state that strongly prefers 50/50 kid time).

Separated for 2 months now; it took 1 month to become amicable. Mostly 1) how/why she left was a huge turnoff for me and 2) she made it clear it was definitely divorce. Week 1 I was shocked and angry Week 2 I helped her get a hotel and feel less crazed Week 3 I tried to get her back Week 4 I thought about why she left and didn’t want her back; went no contact and moved her stuff to a storage unit. Week 5 She moved 2 blocks away so our kids can walk between houses and we started joking around whi…

Go to a relationship therapist by yourself, explain that you are avoiding conflict and guilt, then explain this situation. They will validate that it’s perfectly fine to feel this way and fine to act on it. They will help you work through this and ask you the questions knowing your own answers will guide you out. No one should be trapped, or trap themselves. Also, if you want your partner to have decent mental health, don’t play these mind games with them. Mine kept doing more absurd shit that n…

Same here! I worked so hard on our marriage for the first 12 years, then got burned out these last 3 years. Since she left last month, I couldn’t be more calm and at peace…like I don’t have to put all my energy into figuring out how to keep this thing going anymore. My anxiety/depression completely disappeared, physical health increased, and life is so easy now (with a ton of extra time, too!). I hadn’t realized I was playing life on hard mode. We’re still friends and have 2 kids (9 and 13), and…
