There are absolutely a lot of ways that women have it easier than men. There are also a lot of ways men have it easier than women. There are also a million problems that aren't split by gender but by class or race. I don't think that a few women coming forwards and saying that they have an easier time dating is gonna change much.

I guess there's a vicious cycle because I wouldn't waste time with someone not putting in effort in their first message but I can understand why you wouldn't put time into it

That's fair. I'd like to think that most women will realise the advantages they have with OLD and not let it warp their opinion of themselves but that's not gonna happen for everyone.

A point I didn't mention was that OLD is mostly about physical looks, yes you can have a bio but for most people that's a joke or a small description, not anything to base your views on that person off of. I made this post because on a couple of others recent posts people were giving examples of women they knew who would swipe though men and only match with a few, and this was said as a bad thing, that these people were the problem. However I think its perfectly reasonable to limit yourself to t…

Men 100% have higher standards than don't be fat, and also have pretty unrealistic expectations of what fat is. I've been turned down for having weird looking boobs, a dead tooth, short hair, the list goes on. I know at least a couple of men who will not date someone with body hair. Ugly girls are completely ignored, I see a lot of people who complain about not having a gf who don't ever even consider dating someone who might be considered unattractive. There are many many women who can't change…

Different tastes are totally fine, but I personally would rather be with someone I got along well with than someone who fit my exact desires. Obviously it'll usually end up being a mix of both..

Not always, its perfectly possible for a 20 year old to date a 16 year old and it be a happy and fulfilling relationship for both of them. However it would also be very easy for him to abuse his position to abuse her.

I said in another comment that I feel online dating is skewed, its almost like shopping where you're given a selection of men to choose from, and you might as well only choose the best looking. That's not how it works irl a lot of the time, you'll meet someone and get to know them before you consider a relationship. If all you have to go on are pictures then yeah the best looking people are gonna get chosen.

I honestly feel like its pretty mutual, men are more attracted to slightly younger women and women are attracted to slightly older men. I think to an extent men are somewhat predatory when approaching relationships around high school age, 20 year olds dating 16 year olds has a power balance with the potential for abuse.

Slightly off topic but why is it always talking about women dating older men and not men dating younger women? Surely they're the same statistics, 60% of men date women 1 year or younger than them?

Yeah I'm definitely not blaming the men for this one, society as a whole is pretty against it, both men and women will judge a man who uses makeup, which sucks.

You can prefer taller people without it being a requirement. I prefer taller men but I wouldn't turn someone down for being shorter because that's incredibly shallow and would potentially result in me missing a great opportunity.

I would consider 1-5 years older within the same age range, though around high school age that gap is much more significant. I would say my social circle is mostly similar to me. I try my best to see the other side as well, its literally why I'm here, to talk with people with differing opinions.

I will concede that I probably am not the best example of your average woman haha. However I do still think that its wrong that most women think most men are ugly, at least within their age range.

Do you think part of it might also come from the old fashioned idea that women don't really have sexual urges or should suppress them? I feel like maybe in the past women were more afraid to openly display their attractions whereas today that's celebrated.

So what, women get to queue up, night after night until its their turn to fuck chad? Its not exactly an ideal circumstance for most women.

I can see how in theory this might be the case, from a purely theoretical standpoint there's no point in women noticing a mediocre man because they don't want to reproduce with him. However that's just not how the real world works, or how people work. You meet people all the time, and you don't just ignore or write someone off because you don't immediately want them as a sexual partner.

Exactly this, if these physical things are a priority for you then that usually points towards you being a pretty shallow person.

I'd say most men are datable and I'm not gonna soley rely on looks to judge someone I might want to date.

I don't think this is true, I think men are as capable at loving less attractive partners as women are, I just think there's an element of lust with men that can't 100% be fulfilled by an unattractive partner.

I feel like this is something guys often don't realise, sure 7/10 women as a whole are doing great but individually its not like they do particually well.

But she can't easily get an attractive guy, because there's 20 other 7/10s also trying to get the 9/10 guys attention. Sure the 9/10 is going home with a 7/10 every night but the 7/10 is going home alone most nights, unless she gets lucky.

I agree about the makeup, though I can't blame men for not wanting to wear it because of societal judgement for men wearing it. Honestly just some concealer can do wonders on men, its just that most wouldn't even consider it because makeup is seen as a woman's thing.

I am a woman. Not really sure how this is helpful to the discussion.

Why do you think that people didn't realise women cared about looks? Is that just a lack of socialising with women when growing up or something? Not trying to attack anyone just genuinely curious why someone would have this mindset.

I guess looks are a great opener, it makes it much easier to get in there with someone who's very attractive if you're also attractive. But like you said its not impossible to find someone attractive if you're not, it just means you have to have something else to provide, whether that's a job or a good personality or whatever.

I really can't see that most women think that most men are shit looking. OkCupid probably isn't a great representation of real life, its almost like shopping where you get a list of men and can afford to be picky because of the gender ratios on there. In real life there's no way I would say the majority of men I see look shit, and I don't know anyone who would say that.

Its true that women do have the chance of getting with a more attractive guy than them but that ignores the fact that they have to be chosen above any other 7/10 woman around, as well as any more attractive woman than them. Also men can definitely get with more attractive women than them, though I do appreciate its more difficult.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
