If theyre already at redline they cant just downshift like that. They have a very limited rev range where theyre making power. Thats why they have so many gears. Hes probably already in the best gear he can be.

Loosing a little momentum while weighing 80,000 pounds is a bigger issue then a 4500 pound car driving 10mph slower for a few minutes.

Ive had many 90s era jacks fail...they're not old and immune. The 90s were a shitty time for a lot of things.

Go buy a better one if its such a pita. They make compact small hydraulic floor jacks that weigh almost nothing.

Probably. My area didnt teah us shit. In fact the old quack that taught the class claimed that youd die if you screwed up and she hit your newer car with her 63 impala that youd be dead. so "be sure to be carefull, the older cars will crush your tin cans flat!" Yes, because the 59-64 GM X chassis cars had such great crash ratings. Worst example ever...

new mustang doesnt. And honestly. When buying a secondhand car...its a good idea to actually make sure those are there BEFORE driving it anywhere. Because honestly, people dont normally put them back in.

slight hill, governed to a certain speed, and trying to keep momentum up so theyll get up even the slightest hill without slowing down. Theres way more variables then youd think. I experienced this first hand towing a car through the Appalachian mountains with my truck. Its rather nerve racking trying to keep up momentum.
