Congrats on putting yourself out there and overcoming the urge to be silent! Even if you don't know the language perfectly yet, the boldness of simply striking up that conversation speaks volumes and makes you stand out, and an important thing to remember is that exactly what you say matters less than the intent. Confident body language will help you a ton here, and being assertive with physical contact will go a LONG way especially with how reserved and timid most Japanese men are. (You also ha…

Ah, understood. Disregarding the bummer of injuries, would you say SL was worth it? I tried it for maybe two months at the start of 2014 and lost interest/stopped paying for the gym, and am only starting over now because my new work gym happens to have squat racks that my old office lacked.

You bring up a valid point; the volume is pretty high for someone who is starting from the very beginning. Disclaimer added! It works for me (at least until the base 5x5 weights get heavy enough to warrant a re-evaluation) because I'm coming from a martial arts and general body weight exercise background, but lack experience doing the powerlifting motions in SL/SS. EDIT: Note that the increased volume in this variant means it isn't friendly to the complete beginner. Learn the big 5 lifts through SL/SS and then evaluate if you want to add that level of accessory work to meet your goals! I've personally modified the workout over time to include reverse drag curls with the barbell instead of standard curls, after being made aw…

Thank you so much for writing this up in detail. I've recently pulled myself out of the fallout from a poorly-ended LTR and am working down the RP, so I'm very new to it all. I'll have to keep this in mind for when I move into the city and will have more options like this (thoughts on templates when you live in the burbs?). You mentioned the transition from the icebreaker 1st location like a coffee shop to the park, but I must have missed your recommendation on the transition from location 2 to …

Can't believe I hadn't thought of doing this. Thank you for pointing it out!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
