I feel that about people developing wider conceptions of what it means to be a man as they get older. I've noticed that when I was very young, my peers had extremely narrow conceptions of what it meant to be man, and only accepted the most stereotypically manly of men. But now that they're older and society's progressed a bit, people are a lot more open-minded. I think society having less strict demands of masculinity now has contributed to me feeling more comfortable identifying as a man now.

I do have a history of sexual victimization and I do think that contributed to the nonbinary identity somewhat. If the argument is that children are more likely to be ready for school if they start a year later, then I’d support sending all children to school a year later. I really feel for my straight and bisexual brothers. In recent years it has become so normalized to say things like "if a man complains about his ex, start wondering what he did to her". In the past I did not blink at these statements because I thought they did not apply to me as a gay man. I was naïve to believe that. I liked that character a lot in the same way I liked a lot of the self-serving, unlikeable characters in that show. The point of the show is that everyone had to act like the biggest asshole ever just to survive, as a meta-commentary on capitalism. 212 objectively tries to get ahead in the game by using her body. It helps her for a little bit but ultimately fails as a strategy. It’s not misogynistic to point out what happened on screen.

I’m pretty sure I would have reacted similarly to someone grabbing me randomly and unexpectedly. What happened in this video isn’t that bad, but it’s absolutely true that a man doing the same thing to a woman would be viewed as sexual assault. Levine has nothing to apologize for. I think if you are a gay man especially, you will encounter a lot of well-meaning women with poor boundaries like this. It’s not suddenly okay just because it’s a woman doing it.

I really need to look more into this concept of female hypoagency. I hate that I've had these thoughts. It feels like in my left-wing circles I'm never allowed to speak up or give an opinion. And I've unironically been called a misogynist at work just for standing up against power-tripping bullies who happened to be women. It doesn't matter that I would critique men for the same actions. It's never enough; I'm a misogynist just for not being 100 percent subservient to the women in my life. I'm tired of cynical, self-serving deployments of identity politics.

Jokes about balding men make me so fucking uncomfortable, but they're sooooo fucking common in progressive spaces. It's an immutable characteristic that shouldn't be made fun of.
