What do you bring to the table? I believe it's called a vagina.

When I was a little boy I had a pink easy-bake oven! Apparently boys aren't supposed to like baking.

Feminism seeks to augment female rights and privilege at the expense of true gender equality.

We probably already agree that the amputation of any normal, functional, healthy parts of the body should only be voluntary. Is that correct? I cannot definitively answer the question without some sort of context. I think circumcision is perfectly acceptable, but I condemn hand, arm, and head amputation. The disagreement we have is about whether or not the foreskin is normally functional and healthy. It is. I don't expect you to ever believe intactivists. This argument may be almost impossible f…

OP, your real anxiety is not because you got your son circumcised, you feel anxious because you think your penis is abnormal, mutilated, or disfigured. I'm guessing you have been shamed into thinking that by certain people in the MRM. OP you have nothing to feel ashamed about. The MRM is about penis acceptance, cut or uncut, and regardless of size. Nobody should ever make you feel bad about yourself because of your genitals.

Plus, if it was done recently, by the time he is an adult there is a decent possibility there will be major advances by organizations like foregen and you can literally grow it back. My problem with the anti-circumcision faction of the MRM is their idealization of the uncircumcised penis. Not only are you telling circumcised men that their penis isn't normal, but that they should hope for a future day when they can repair their penis. That's disgusting, quit shaming circumcised men. I stand for …

If someone got fired for being straight it would be all over the news and it just generally doesn't happen because of their sexuality. Actually, heterosexuals are fired all the time for their sexual orientation. You don't hear about it because it is usually construed as sexual harassment. For example, a female thinks a male co-worker gave her a "creepy" look, or a male misinterprets a female as flirting with him. Both situations can get the man fired for creating an uncomfortable workplace. The …

Firstly, it goes beyond religion. Circumcision is a procedure performed on non-Jewish boys around the world, trivialised and justified behind the mask of "tradition". I understand what you are saying, all too often barbaric practices persist in the name of tradition. However, I am not advocating circumcision for every male. I am simply trying to speak up on behalf of men who have a particular religious attachment to circumcision and are happy to have been circumcised. We do exist and our voice s…

Our biggest goal is to stop men and women forcing others to have parts of their body cut off. There is something you can do about circumsision- you can avoid doing it to others. You've indicated you want to force a child to have it, and as such are not very sympathetic. You are vastly overstating the issue. I'm not forcing anybody to have parts of their body cut off. All I'm saying is that in certain cultures the removal of a boys foreskin, an amount of skin about the size of the tip of your pin…

If the procedure was only done within the religion, it wouldn't be as big of an issue. I still wouldn't agree with it, but I'm not Jewish, either. Thank you for acknowledging at least this much. Circumcision isn't for everyone, but at least it should be for some. As such, the whole "father/son tradition" thing seems a little selfish, at best. How do you know your son will want to be Jewish forever? He may want to make up his own mind as to what religion he follows. He may also want to make up hi…

You are using your power and control to hurt another man. You're free to do it as an adult to yourself. You are free to mutilate yourself in many ways when you are older- tattooing, ear piercings, many piercings in other places, and circumcisions. But when you force another male to endure pain for religious reasons, it becomes an issue of the men's rights movement. I have a very difficult time believing you support the MRM when you constantly refer to a circumcised penis as mutilated. Stop shami…

Again, the point isn't choosing circumcision, the point is that it is a tradition passed on from father to son. Essentially, you value the foreskin more than you do a father/son relationship. Religious men are men too. If the MRM is really about listening to the opinions and emotions of all men, then we should take the religious opinion on circumcision into account.

You can, and statistics. http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs00383-010-2566-9 5% have problems. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23374102 Circumcized men report more pain during sex and reduced pleasure. http://www.cirp.org/library/psych/boyle6/ There's some evidence that the pain of circumcision causes increased incidence of mental disorders and ptsd. As such, it's a generally harmful procedure. There would need to be a pretty large benefit to it for people to support it. Cars have a …

You have a fully functioning penis. So do I, and I was also circumcised. When a circumcision goes flawlessly, there are minimal side effects (though there is still loss of sensitivity). But it doesn't always go flawlessly. Sometimes the penis is mutilated to the point where sex is difficult if not impossible. Sometimes the loss of sensitivity is so great that the man cannot achieve orgasm. Sometimes the boy/man has difficulty peeing. In some cases, particularly in developing countries, circumcis…

Personal choice is not necessarily the standard for what is good. I had no choice in learning to speak English, in being an American citizen, in being male, in being heterosexual, but I don't lament any of those things just because I didn't have a choice in the matter.

Listen, You can find anecdotes to demonstrate the horrors of just about anything. Sure, a lot of boys are hurt during circumcision, but the vast majority are not. Similarly, thousands of people are killed or hurt in car accidents. Though, that still does not convince me to stop driving a car. Furthermore, I object to the word "mutilation" because, despite how the word may be defined in the dictionary, it has very negative connotations. I would never use the word "mutilated" in a positive manner.…

Then why not make that choice when you are 18 and can choose for yourself? Being circumcised at 18 years is much more painful than being circumcised at 8 days old. Wouldn't that be more meaningful? The meaning behind circumcision has nothing to do with making the decision to be circumcised. What matters is actually being circumcised. Additionally, it is a tradition passed from father to son, not something men choose to do on their own. Not to mention that religion is also used to justify female …

I do not think the MRM is synonymous with preventing circumcision. I am a man and I am happy to be circumcised. The MRM should be about empowering men. However, telling circumcised men that their genitals are "mutilated" is not empowering.

But it was wrong for your parents to have mutilated your genitals without consulting you. I strongly object to the description of my genitals as "mutilated". I have a fully functioning penis, just without a foreskin. I was not given a personal choice in the matter, but in return I gained cultural rights and responsibilities that I would not otherwise have if the matter had been left to personal choice. In other words, I lost my foreskin but acquired a social status within my culture that I would…

I fully support the MRM, but I do not think circumcision is anti-male. In my culture, circumcision was revealed by God to Abraham and is a sign of God's covenant. Circumcision is passed down father to son. As a male I am proud that I can bear the mark of God's covenant on my body.

Do not get involved with women. The only way to have power over your life is to stay out of relationships with women. Most women do not want sex and those that do will not take responsibility for their actions.

Okay, we need to give this a situation. Let's say, at a party full of friends-of-friends' (since most people don't try to get with strangers they just saw). I'm being totally honest when I say that most of them wouldn't say "oh, he didn't approach me so I didn't go talk to him". The ones that would say that are shy- like, I think this has much more to do with extrovertism vs. introvertism rather than men vs. women. Really? Can you honestly say that, as a male, you have never had a female ignore …

I really wonder what kind of social environments people on reddit are in. And what kind of people they associate with. This is a safe space, please refrain from insulting other men. Because, okay, maybe 90% of my friends are women and none of them would call a guy a "loser" for being nervous to approach them- they would be flattered. I think that is great, you must know some very considerate women. However, I can only speak to my experience. The real question is, would your female friends then t…

That is exactly the "wimp" stereotype I am referring to. If a man feels anxiety about approaching a woman and he hesitates to do so or does not approach her at all, he is perceived as "anti-social", "awkward", a "loser". Rather than seeing this man as a human being experiencing an emotion, women ignore him because men are not supposed to exhibit emotions like anxiety.

Yep, read it again. It is still not saying men should be silenced, just that MRM spaces are more commonly devoted to talking down women and feminism, than they are to actually solving men's issues. Men expressing how they feel about women and feminism is a men's issue and allowing them a safe space to do that in does solve men's issues. You actually seem to think this is supposed to be the point of MRM, and that the idea is to give a space where we can safely "criticize females." Yes, to the ext…

How? I do not read that from what he said at all. Read again what the author says: I think the fundamental narrative you're presenting, where men want to dutifully sit and discuss the restrictions on their gender but are bullied out of it by mean feminists, is too pat and forgiving. I've been looking at the MRA for a long time, and spaces that are openly and directly hostile to women and especially feminism are far more common than spaces where guys just want to discuss gender issues. I just dis…

Could you please identify the point you disagree with, so we can discuss it further? This is also an excellent addition to that discussion I do not like this post because the author implies that if a man is angry about women and sees them as the enemy, then his opinion should be silenced because it does not matter. However, that is exactly the situation which the MRM is fighting against: the notion that men are disposable and their feelings do not matter. Men deal with the stress of not being he…

I disagree, I think you are only perpetuating the notion that when women complain about men it is called empowerment, but when men complain about women it is called sexism.

This ad shames men for having the social responsibility of sexual initiation. Of course, men do not choose this responsibility, it is placed on them by society. If a man initiates with a woman who does not like him he is a "creep" and will be ostracized. If a man does not initiate with a woman who likes him he is a "wimp" and will be ostracized.
