I think it's weird he didn't ask her stuff like "when did you realise" "how did you realise" and listen to her answers. Isn't he emotionally invested in his wife, doesn't he want to know her thoughts?

The older widows I knew sometimes had a gentleman friend as they would call them, who they visited with, went out with and so on, but never seemed to want a full relationship and marriage. They had already done their time.

OMG. According to my dad, one of my great great aunts or something was left by her husband for her sister, when divorce was considered scandalous. It made it into the local rag, the sister in law being cited as the other woman. After that my great great aunt would proclaim "I've married for love once, this time it's going to the highest bidder!"

I just read the article and realised that an ex friend I just dumped was probably triangulating me and her other friend. I dumped her for being an all round clingy train wreck so it makes sense.
