In my limited experience with dating and talking to 20-something-year-old Dutch men, they are almost as if emasculated by their egalitarianism.

My ex only sent me flowers to my house after I dumped him. Never gifted me jewelry either and I hinted what I wanted. Literally had to beg for a gift so I could have something to remember him by as we were in a long distance relationship. He was quite happy with me buying him expensive stuff though, like a plane ticket.
