Give it time. She's making an emotional statement. But yeah, if she upholds that perspective in a month or so, you have some decisions to make. I'm sorry, dude, she sounds rough to be around.

I keep a half an ambien on my nightstand. If I wake up between midnight and 3, and I know my mind is going to do this, then this does the trick. Good luck, brother.

No. That is, unless you want it to escalate and create drama for the foreseeable future. I'd advocate moving on, but maybe somehow let her know that you COULD do this if she spreads any BS.

Similar story here- kids and good times through those stages of life are not a waste. It's part of your legacy. Now, a new chapter, and while nothing is guaranteed, you have a life expectancy that exceeds the length of your marriage. Own it and embrace it.

She shouldn't get alimony if income is the same. Shouldn't get 50% of your pension, either, if you both have the same size pension. You made the right choice in getting an attorney. Talk to your attorney about it, not her. She's either trying to get your goat or is uninformed.

So you are now the backup plan, but you know this already. No kids, so this is uncomplicated. END IT NOW. Read this forum. It's full of dudes in their late 30's, 40's, and 50's who have complex lives with assets and kids that create a huge mess to untangle. Many wish they had done this earlier. Get a divorce, but try to keep it amicable is my advice. Tell her since she wants to explore, that you'd like a chance to do that to. Propose a simple divorce and tell her you can re-visit or re-connect i…

Yeah, it's maddening. Maybe we can split to live our own lives and leave them to share a house.

I feel ya, but I still have a son at home. I can relate to the criticism about how you dusted. I've been pushing back a lot, and it created a situation where she gets irritated and critical of me, and it's completely crushed my sex drive for her. If your wife is anything like mine, she probably isn't capable of saying "I'm sorry" or self-reflecting on how she contributes to our problems. Oh, and get this- she wants to send ME to therapy, not her. Regardless, we're having actual discussions about…

Your mind will always gravitate toward the good times and special memories. That's human nature. You need some notes about why you made the decision to end it. Keep them electronically on Evernote or OneNote or whatever. Refer to them only when necessary to avoid some dark moments.

I am in a similar situation. I don't know if it will fly, but considering offering in the moderation two options. Again, I don't know if I'll get laughed out of the room, but I am thinking about: 1) Letting her live in home until kids graduate (3-4 years) while I pay mortgage (mortgage payment gets credited toward "family/child" support. Then, it get's sold on XX/XXXX date with proceeds split. 2) Other option- Give up some equity in the home in exchange for keeping more of your 401k. Not advice,…

I'm sorting through options as well. Following this closely. I guess the good news is that in CA, the minimum wage is pretty high so her potential earnings has a pretty high floor. Good luck, brother!

I feel you. Similar situation here. I'm following along. Thanks for sharing.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
