I know what you are talking about, I don't like them and I would prefer to see them contained in a megathread for people to use as catharsis. Hate seeing them linked to as evidence "all MGTOWs are like that".

The self-improvement obsession is a relatively recent development, even as recently as 20 years ago the only investment people felt obliged to make was to stay out boozing with the boss they find annoying. I think the guilt trip affects single women as well as single men, but there are more single men so it is more noticeable.

In a sense I think she has a valid point, the benefits of industrialisation and later electronics were supposed to mean that we were freed from drudgery and would have time to carry out more rewarding activities. Instead all the free time was given to unemployed people and the best workers have to work very long hours and/or study for exams nobody needed in the past, that have provided little benefit to anybody. Her argument falls down when she gets to the chestnut of unequal division of housewo…

The revenge fantasies take up too much real estate on the board and dilute messages that are easier for a casual reader to relate to, like how to live a fulfilling life as a single person, financial planning etc

The weird thing is that a huge number of people genuinely think it is a misogynistic show. They ignore the 250-odd men that have been killed in the most barbaric ways, and rant on about a couple of rapes and a few women being killed. They just jump on to something popular and hijack it with their outrage.

IT people get more money contracting anyway. If you get in trouble with anyone as a contractor they will just end your contract on a no fault basis so it won't mess anything up for you. If you can do a job with lots of overtime potential that will work out well for you, once you have a few thousand saved up your life will be a lot easier.

There is no racial element to MGTOW, there could be different applications in different cultures e.g. religious but that's something else. I do notice a few more "appreciate your man" articles from websites targeted at black women like MadamNoire, but I have no idea why this is the case.

It is definitely true at 60, because there are quite a few widows by that age who try and snap up any single guys that come up on the market. However, I agree with you as I do have doubts that 35 year old women have it that hard (and I am 35 so I would know).

These plans are always so ridiculous. How would it work in practice? It would take at least 2 women to overpower even a single man. That's assuming enough women could work together to organise a mass skinning while men mostly worked as individuals. Maybe they could write a strongly worded blog or tweet something so that men would be unable to defend themselves.

Well to be fair they didn't have the internet but there is definitely a sense of needing to be continually offended to justify their existence. Compare with the gay men's movement which is now concentrating on isolated instances of discrimination, and in countries like Uganda which still kill men for being gay. The average gay guy has won what he wanted and is happy to be a productive member of society.

Nobody knows or cares how often Bill Gates or Carlos Slim has a wank. The 'graduate premium' in arts degrees may well be less than the cost of the loans.

I think this link is a good example of why Tumblr is a terrible website. If this nonsense was posted on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter or anywhere else you care to mention the author would have the comment hounds unleashed upon her, but on Tumblr you can't really see what the man or woman in the street thinks of it. I prefer not to give to health charities especially for conditions that affect older people. I prefer to give to charities for underprivileged young people, because I am older than them I can see it as genuinely altruistic. I think homelessness charities are good ones for MGTOWs to support because the majority of homeless people are men. It's good to be in favour of things instead of just being against things all the time.

In the majority of sports, the "men's" leagues aren't segregated by gender. Women are not banned from taking part. The reason no women are in the top teams is because they aren't good enough (this could change one day).

There are some very authoritarian policies which would be MGTOW friendly such as a more proactive approach to sterilisation of benefit claimants or requiring single mothers to live in dedicated communal living buildings (the latter was a British National Party policy nicknamed 'gulags for slags' but amusingly was later proposed by the Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown). I don't think either of these policies would work without a carrot to offset the stick element.
