Good post! You are spot on about it being related to gender roles. I wish more people talked about this. Unfortunately, men and women are evaluated in a fundamentally different way. Whereas women can attain social value independently of other women, men can only attain social value in relation to other men -- specifically, by demonstrating superiority over other men. I do live among them, and I still disagree with your rhetoric. My country has comparable levels of migrants as yours, if not more. I've had friends who were Syrian refugees, and I can promise you that the vast majority of them are "normal people" who don't behave like animals. Like, at worst I can complain that they're too fond of playing loud music. ...that view is the exact problem that this article discusses! Male refugees are not considered human beings. They're viewed as rapists, terrorists, cowards, invaders, or freeloaders. And saying most behave like animals is in fact also dehumanizing. Male refugees have become an outlet for western people to be as racist as they want, without going checked. It is a shame
