I live in FL and it too is like this, and I just want out. I thought I escaped once to CO, but nope. I live in an apartment and got it in me to grow something. The master bath had a makeup table and mirror which never got used. So I planted several pots of various flowers and put them in a tray for drainage on the table. On top of the mirror I mounted a clipon grow light and put it on a timer. They all took off and did pretty well with minimal care. I think the steam and humidity from a daily shower helped them too. Also tried peppers in a pot, but they didn't do as well as the flowers.

The only one the Navy is to blame for imo is the one who drowned, that shouldn't happen in training. The other two just washed out, one decided to kill himself and the other got drunk and drove into a ravine, neither is the Navy's fault. I looked into this a few years ago for myself in Colorado, will do it once I get enough cash saved. I compared log housing to steel, both have benefits. I know 2 people who became Pharmacists and easily got work. Their employer hired them before they were even out of school and let them work as a tech, and even helped pay for their education with the agreement that they would continue to work for a few of years after graduation.
