You come across as slow because you have low working memory and processing speed, you've been describing textbook symptoms of inattentive ADHD. You could've easily suffered from test-anxiety or even under-perform to confirm what people have lead you to believe. Which test did you take? I guarantee that if you take an IQ test, your working memory and processing speed will be significantly lower than your general intelligence (spatial/numerical/verbal/perceptual reasoning) I'm so sure that you don't have a low IQ because you seem really self aware... your writing is better than average and you're knowledgeable.
