I don't have a source on this, but I remember reading about some experiment, where a group of men and a group of owmen were asked to put their hand in icewater until they could no longer endure the pain. the result was men lasting between 3 and 5 times as long as women.

I agree. I suppose a point of how the phenomenon are different is that misogynistic pornography themes aren't embedded in the mainstream media. We don't see violent rape themed pornography advertising for power tools, or other typically male consumer products.

I'm sure there's moderates who do think that it goes both ways. It's hard to look at without context though, if it's just vanilla pornography where the scenario is consensual sex then I think the rhetoric is ridiculous, if it's some kind of violent scat rape pornography or extreme CBT or something, then I guess there's reasonable points to be made about unhealthy attitudes between the genders. The bottom line is that pornography in and of itself isn't harmful.

I think it's possible that the problem is mainly one of poor judgement on the part of the mother. Not to say she is 100% at fault, but unstable psychopaths exist, and giving them access to your children is your responsibility to avoid.

Obviously I think everything Santorum has said in that article is patently false, but I have some qualms saying that in itself is completely false, when there's any number of cases where pornography really is degrading and awful. I'm not sure where I stand on abortion, for me the crux of the problem lies on when the foetus becomes sapient, or more accurately, sentient, seeing as a child of two or three could hardly be said even to be sapient. I don't think there's all too much morally wrong with aborting something that has no faculties that enable it to feel. regardless of where the cool kids like to sit, sitting in the back of the bus is generally a bad thing, as it disconveniences who ever is sitting there (have to walk the length of the bus when they want to get off). I think the women only carriage is meant to be a privilege for women, not to keep all the convenient seats for men. I personally see nothing wrong with this, provided there's a men's only carriage as well.

Yeah, reading pharyngula became more and more and more painful as time went on, until eventually I just stopped. I always thought PZ was a bit condescending and annoying in how he dealt with religion (and I say this as an unapologetic athiest) but knew his stuff when it came to science and particularly his field of biology,ensuring quite an enlightening read from time to time.
