Haha…I’m just waiting a couple more years for my daughter to turn 18 and then I plan on moving out to SE Asia too! I can’t speak for all the Dads but I always wanted to stick around while mine were children however difficult it was. But then again I was born in the 70s and was part of the latch-key generation growing up without a dad and a working mum.

I’m in the UK and agree completely. Family courts, child benefit, legal costs etc…it’s all about protecting / prioritising the children and nearly always the mother is the main care giver and therefore primary recipient. I’ve been through it all a couple of times. 2 kids with a French ex wife, 1 kid with a Scottish ex gf. Each time, it has cost me a house and significant monthly income. I’m really surprised things turned out badly for her. Did it really happen like that? That’s how people used to react in the UK back in the 70s…but since then it’s typically the husband being made homeless or living in a bed sit while the wife takes the house and about 40% of his net income.
