The two biggest remaining barriers are bipedal balance and making an android that can act and react in a socially appropriate manner. Neither of these are insurmountable. It's a question of "who does it first and and when" now. Now an android with a fully-functioning uterus MIGHT be biologically impossible, or something that's too big an ethical minefield to be done in the open.
