To provide an alternative perspective: If someone asserts, even fully believes, they were raped.. then it's as good as true to them. They can have feelings all they like. They were "raped." What the cannot do is consequently punish whoever they choose. So this statement reads better as, "don't want to live somewhere where the government decides who to punish". That's the feeling I take away, at least.

Always trying to play it like "For the sake of teh boys, poor girls are being deprived of educations." When really the boys aren't sending girls home. Administrators are. And probably rightfully so. I like that it's more gender-neutral. I dislike the general idea because, y'know.. It's bullshit. I mean, honestly.. Do people think that rapists are the sort of people who listen to reason and calm advice about how to not rape? Nah. I'm not willing to see sexism as prejudice + power in an everyday context. It's hard for me to articulate my issue with this. Bear with me if it's a bit chaotic. In most examples the follow-up of "is prejudice still bad" is met with deflection or denial. "Not against [cis/white/het/male] it's not." Basically, not enough people are willing to acknowledge that prejudice is still bad. This is completely ignoring the sexism = prejudice + power idiocy which is just an attempt at redefining a term to social advantage.

I'm saying that, regardless of laws regulating marriage, people affiliated with a religion who are empowered to marry people (as in, perform a ceremony joining two people in marriage) ought never feel pressured to marry people if they feel it's wrong. I'm happy to see someone else bring up not forcing religious groups to marry those they don't want to marry. My stance has always been one of, "I can't see why government should oppose it. But I would in no way support a gay person's 'right' to force a religious person to go against their beliefs." I'm not even religious. I just think there's a mutual respect angle, there.

I thought about this, actually. I really did. The alternative was to say, "Avoid this topic at all costs in the future until you are outside your mother's authority." ...And if nothing changes on the next run out, that makes sense. I disagree with your assertion. I think that this is not likely to have a large effect on the already so troubled portion of the population. But I don't have any useful statistics or other data to back me or drop me. But.. So long as you also believe that, were a female-targeted anti-rape campaign drawn up, it would similarly increase instances of female rapists committing the crime.. there's no need to argue the point.

It is. Damned shame that's not the message. The message seems to say my penis can STOP rape. Since I, personally, never STARTED.. (And it's common knowledge that the same can be said for most men.. yet the message was put into a place where we could see it anyway..)
