If I’m gonna be real, I only feel 100% unlocked or alive when I’m in a loving relationship. My rational brain knows that it’s not a good deal in today’s world and I’ll end up burned, but that doesn’t always win out against how my brain was encoded by nature. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better off to not know that feeling at all.

I don’t drink alcohol at all because of my family’s known propensity for alcoholism. I don’t necessarily view acknowledging and compensating for flaws as character weakness, in fact the reversal could be argued. Any person that rushes to claim power probably shouldn’t have it. That level of responsibility should only be approached with fearful reverence. That being said, in the books Aragorn never plans to completely forgo his birth status. I think his time as a ranger was simply meant to portra…

I’m not talking about curating content across the whole forum. But it’s 95% of what I see and that doesn’t sound like the spirit of “going your own way” to me, We can be more than our resentment.

I wouldn't be surprised if Aragorn was directly inspired by William Wallace, since Tolkien wrote LotR with the explicit goal of replacing the destroyed English mythology. As far as I can tell they are the same character archetype.

I almost wanted to make this post a compare/contrast with Boromir but I felt I would ramble too much. In short, the only real difference I see in the characters is that Boromir is proud, which blinds him to his weakness. However, his weakness is the perfect foil to Aragorn, since in all honesty Aragorn might be more perfect than a real human could ever actually be. Boromir shows that its okay to fall short as long as you fight to preserve your honor.

I guess I should have said that I never read the books either, its no trivial time-commitment. I should have done it when I was younger. That being said, I've only ever heard that Jackson's interpretation is true to spirit, albeit condensed. One of the key differences between the two is that in books, if I understand correctly, Aragorn never really denies the status of his birth, he simply realizes he isn't ready yet to face it. In the movie you are lead more to believe that he has completely re…

Morality isn’t just doing what’s good for you now. It’s about doing what’s good for you now and also good for those around you, now and in the future. Obviously nobody can do that perfectly because we don’t know how, but we all know something is wrong. There’s this thing screaming in our minds that won’t let itself be ignored. It’s why we’re here. No I’m not talking above animal sex drive, I’m talking about the existential fear that we are all on the brink. I’m not gonna pretend to have a mapped…

If you’re in the gym to try to make yourself what other people want, you’re gonna fail. The trick is to make yourself how you want to see yourself. What would you have to see in the mirror to make yourself proud? Shoot for that. Once you get there, set new goals. People will notice but that’s a side effect because the real validation is between you and yourself. You now know you can set a goal and achieve it.

In black communities, the stereotype has always been it's the dad that abandons ship. I have a few anecdotal stories of trailer-trash white men fathering bastards and running away as well. It isn't that one sided, but the women are definitely pulling more of the weight than they use to.

I agree. We've already crossed the event horizon. Now we are just waiting for the black hole to suck us in to sweet, sweet oblivion. I wonder which culture will step up to lead the world after the fallout. Russia? East Asia?

This phrase means a lot of things to a lot of people. Around here the meme is to take in and provide for some older bimbo that gave away the goods a decade ago. To me, it's about having honor, and a sort of self-actualizing stoicism. Also literally trying to build my physical form to composition that evolution intended for males.

To me MGTOW exists as a MAD (mutually assured destruction) defensive system. The ideal world is mordern tech with 1600s relational values, that is a goal that should be strived towards. However, in order for future generations to enjoy that, we have to draw a line in the sand.

I lift for two reasons: 1) I've tricked myself into getting the same reward feedback like a video game character progression, so it's actually fun to grind progress just like wow gear. 2) I don't want it to be able to be used against me that I'm in bad shape. When people say "you're just MGTOW because beta virgin incel, I want to be able to laugh at them. I like being able to disarm the ad hominem.

People that aren't so jaded by a lifetime of failed experiences have a very needy type of love, especially if you're their first. It's difficult to grasp, but in this hypothetical the man would actually have his balls back in the relationship, she would stay off of social media if her man said so just because she'd be scared to get kicked to the curb.

You're missing the point. The immature bullshit women try to pull off wouldn't work if men had any self-value. Sure the women are insufferable children, but we've collectively told them it's ok because of their vaginas. That's what OPs trying to say.

Faith saves us, but James wrote that faith without works is dead. Nobody talks about James' addition, so Western Christianity treats God like the EBT of forgiveness and they don't have to change their lives at all.

First off, I'm not OC, so don't target me with that. I agree, burden of proof is typically on the shoulders of the one breaking convention. But back to your argument, you mention learning how the world works and what truth is by evaluating experience against some arbitrary standard. The problem is, what happens when every human on Earth's standard is a little different? How can it actually be a standard then, if it is in fact not standard? Furthermore, how can we be certain that, even if everyon…

My long term relationships have all had Cs are larger. Still prefer ass, even if it wasn't as remarkable. It's just a weird hardwiring thing, some guys go one way some go the other. I imagine it has to do with what you're first exposed, but I have nothing to support this other than anecdotes.

Well that's the problem with large quantity data. We get to see the "what" pretty easily but the "why" is very often harder to distinguish. Example: Inner cities have a higher crime rate than rural communities. Fact. Is it because blacks are hard wired to kill each other? Probably not. Is it a deeply ingrained cultural issue? perhaps. Is it systematic targeting of minorities whom are actually committing crimes at a comparable rate to whites? Certainly a possibility worthy of discussion. But to a…
