It came up in conversation between me and one of my male friends about a year ago. My jaw hit the floor when he said that he'd always found porn kinda weird, and honestly didn't like watching it so he stopped. I thought I'd met a unicorn. Furthermore this is a legitimate friendship, no hidden agendas. They exist!

Ugh the girls my old roommate brought back were like this and he would just laugh and say "well it works!". He used to take them for a walk with his dog, would then pass by the apartment after some time and he'd invite them up. The majority of the girls he did this with ended up in the apartment having sex with him. I have no fucking clue how that could work.. but yeah, it definitely pissed me off for that reason exactly. He seemed to think that girls wanting more than that we're demanding, simp…

I almost threw up just hearing him talk.. this just gets me sooo angry!! How does he not realize that 75% of what he's been watching either is, or is borderline, sexual abuse?? I want to leave the planet at this point ugh

No worries, I just got a bit tense cause I've left my pickme days in the past, so any association to that just makes me cringe inside. :) Haha..

I'm not competing with her at all. I don't want to date, I'm busy with my studies and I'm happy with that. I think you misunderstood what I meant a bit :)

Yeah, like she occasionally will put us in categories. Not so long ago she suddenly said "I'm the pretty one, you're the smart one" along with "I'm daddy-kink hot, you're geek hot". I don't want to sound like "that person" but I am by conventional standards better looking than her, and get attention from decent men as well. Besides that, I don't even fit the geek type at all, besides doing a bachelor of science. I thought the need to categorize us came from her not feeling like she could compete…

Ok I have a question: I have a FEMALE friend who straight up only takes ugly photos of me and like she'll take 8-10 from the absolute worst angles. People usually find me attractive but I showed my own mom the photos this 'friend' took and even she said "hey you almost look deformed what the heck"... Question is, is she just lousy at taking photos or does she just not care/wants me to look uglier? I spontaneously take photos of her when I see her in good light, and always make an effort to get h…

At this point I'm so happy I grew up in an anti-porn household. My mom sorta runs the family (thank God) and it's always been like that. When I was younger I thought she was overreacting, but these past few years I've been very appreciative. My brother also just turned 16 and I want him to have a happy and well functioning relationship in the future, not one complicated by that bullshit. One of his classmates at his old school got sent home because he was watching porn in class at 12 years old. …

Agreed! There was a guy I went to high school with who was definitely the most attractive, if rated by society's beauty standards. He was a decent friend (I was dating one of his best friends for two years), but other than that a complete shithead and absolutely horrible to women. He was dating the most beautiful and sweet girl, from another school, like she was the type to turn everyone's head because of both looks and personality. She didn't go to our school though, and this asshat cheated on …

Also how tf would you compare and find out? It's not like you can hop into a different body and test it out? So sad..

I would like to clarify that ADHD/ADD and autism/Asperger's are NOT mental illnesses. These are just the two I can speak for, I'm not an expert, but I do know this.

I can't believe I've never seen this movie! This is a pretty accurate description of my last relationship and the fights we had. It's pretty much also how we broke up (about a month ago).

Oh my God, yes! It doesn't help that a lot of disorders/illnesses are diagnosed using "male criteria". I honestly think it's so frightening that we've only recently discovered the differences in symptoms in men and women getting heart attacks! The first doctor I saw also strongly insinuated, multiple times, that only men could have ASD. What an ass.

Oh wait, the comment I already replied to was actually yours, hahaha! Anyways, here is the more detailed version.

First of all, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. It's so hard and exhausting to be a sensitive person in toxic environments like that. I'm so happy you're here now though, getting a house with your daughter and working towards another degree sounds wonderful! Just out of curiosity, what are you studying? It's hard to get diagnosed with ASD as a woman where I'm from as well. I wrote it in another comment further down, but I went through a lot of trouble to get my diagnosis, so I could g…

Recent research has actually showed that the same genes might possibly be responsible for both of these conditions. It's super interesting I think! But yeah you can definitely have both and it's quite common, as the other comment also says. I have some friends where both of these sorta run in their families. It's the same in mine actually, haha! Happy to see more aspies here! :)

This is my experience too. I've met a lot of very very bad people and not been able to see that right away, and I've been quite hurt because of that. I feel as if everything goes well until I open my mouth. Men always expect me to be a certain way, without even having spoken to me, and I never really fit in with those expectations. I find that I am "too much" for most "normal" people, but I don't really know what that means nor what to do about it :/

Same, I was diagnosed at 22 (If I remember correctly). I've had the same experience with FDS! I love that the advice is so specific!

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago, so I'd say it's fairly recent. I was deeply depressed and broke down at a small party with some of my good friends. They ended up walking me to the psych ward in the early morning hours 'cause I was feeling so suicidal. I didn't know why at the time, I just always felt like something was a bit "off", and that depression wasn't the whole explanation. It was very hard for me to actually get diagnosed. They misdiagnosed me as schitzotypic at first, so I spent a fe…

I have a bit of this too. I overthink ALL replies, even professional and practical ones sometimes (I need to write an email to my professor, but I've postponed it for 5 days now). I really hope the therapy you're getting is working for you! <3 I sort of ended up deciding that I don't really care. It's in no way natural to have a phone and text, so I'm honestly okay with not being very good at replying in time. I found that the more comfortable I am with a person, the easier it is to text back. I…

I'm with you on this one. I don't like texting in general and often replying just sorta slips my mind. Even when it's something important sometimes! I'm also aware that for some people this is a red flag, but whatever. People can sometimes read too much into it. I have Asperger's and ADHD, which probably has a lot to do with this. Regardless of the reason though, people just need to get used to it. If it's something really important/urgent then call instead.

I have the exact same experience! But in 6th grade. Later on it progressed to him cornering me in the schoolyard, on my way to class, and he pushed me up against the wall so hard it bruised my collar bone. He threw clumps of ice at me too. He picked a fight with me again shortly after that, and the class had to pull us apart 'cause this time I got so angry I fought back. I ended up yelling at him an making fun of his name, while they were pulling us apart, and he actually ended up crying. Went b…

This. I agree 100 %. I don't have BPD but I do have Aspergers (autism). My ex would describe his exes and "crazy BPD's" and made it seem like they were all to blame for the issues in the relationship. I didn't realize that it was a hugeeee red flag at the time, probably caused I've been a bit naive socially. I've learned from my mistakes though, largely thanks to FDS. That being said, I started realizing that the issue was his behavior towards me, when I started exhibiting behaviours in the rela…

I don't really understand where you're going with this. I'm a woman, I'm in university studying nanoscience, which is pretty close to biotech to be honest. Lots of women work in biotech so I really don't understand this comment. What was your point?

It took me wayyy too long to realize this. I kept running around trying to explain that the lies were what hurt the most, as if he didn't understand that I was hurting. He knew. I'm glad I know this today though. Never again!
