You nailed it. Power dynamics are absolutely at play in all of this. Also, to anyone reading this: don't ever date a (male) comedian. Especially stand up.

Worst part is hearing again and again how "women aren't funny" and other such gems. Turns out, an artform that's all about pushing boundaries is easier for people who are allowed to talk about anything they want! Another example of this is jokes about sex. I got people taking offense about some of my jokes about body hair for being too sexual, meanwhile every male comedian walking this earth has at least 10 minutes about his dick.

I have to agree with you. I do stand up (well..used to) and clips like these are so annoying to me. If I ever did these jokes exactly like that, 9/10 I would bomb, guaranteed. It would just read as whiny, bitter, etc. When I want to talk about subjects like these, I'd have to get REAL creative with it and be at 10x funnier to get half the laughs that he does with his bit.

I don't see OP pretending her maternity ward receives ALL men, so I really don't know where you got the " ALL men" thing from. So in that regard, if no one claimed all men, why are you so quick to defend yours against it? This says way more about you and him than it does about this sub. Keep digging yourself that ho…

I'm not sure I follow the logic of you argument. You're saying OP shouldn't use her own experience with LVM being shitty fathers to describe all men, but rather use YOUR own experience with ONE man not being a shitty father instead? Why is you one instance of a man not being a shitty father more valid? I don't want to attack you I am truly curious as to what compelled you to write all that on this post today. You sure spent a lot of energy defending your partner, even though no one was accusing …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
