Then why do I feel so different? Because my external circumstances were not what was causing me to feel a lack of freedom. It was the beliefs in my own mind that kept me feeling trapped. I created my own prison and I robbed myself of my own freedom. This is awesome and just what I needed to hear today. I appreciate you sharing and for the advice you have given me. Enjoy your freedom!

Thanks for this tip. I can do this. It makes the whole process seem more manageable to start small. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I'm spending too much time contemplating the big picture when I'm not there yet.

Sometimes there is a connection. I have been working on this and it isn't as bad. It can really be anything, bad day at work, kid acting up. I'm just letting myself get blown around by the storms of life and I have got to stop being catastrophic about shit. That has to be really unattractive!

I like this. Actively let go of the regret and anger. I'm going to incorporate this. Working on resetting hard each day if I feel the depression and anger creep in.

You have your finger on it. I'm not who I want to be. I can lift heavy things and bang my woman, but I'm still working on the mission part. I've been living this way for so long I'm not sure what that is. For now I just think being my own man is mission enough. Run everything through the lens of if it is what I want for myself and my family. That is what I mean by the fog lifting. I can't see the target yet and just want to know I am at least running in the right direction. I continue to journal…

I’ve read this from others and it is on my list of tools. I’m not ready for that yet. I’m going to give it a few weeks. Not because I’m afraid of the reaction, I’m just not sure I can do it from the correct frame yet. Still too wrapped up in validation seeking. I think I would be doing it seeking validation, not to raise my standards.

Thanks, I hope that is the case. I’m definitely lost on that one. I struggle with the rule 9’s. Working on it.

I generally have trouble after about 3 days of no sex regardless of where I am. I don't know why. Is that common? The couch is just slightly easier because I can turn on the radio or TV and that seems to distract my brain. I see your point here. I'll have to think about that. If I need to move to get the sleep I need, I am just going to do it.

I think I see. Its a locus of control issue. I can control being a self validating and congruent man, I can't control her reaction or her trust, although it will still probably follow, I can't control it. Focus on what I control (the internals) and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't remember you... I wouldn't expect you to. My original posts were not good. I got ruled 9'd on every one of them. I didn't get it yet. Something has finally clicked and I need to make it stick. I have acted like a little bitch. Time to stop." FTFY. Thanks - good point. I understand that validation needs are poisoning a lot of things in my life. That much is crystal clear in my journal. I'm not clear on the path out. Like I'm hacking through a jungle but can only see a few feet in front of…

Am in the process of stopping porn as most days I have little to no attraction to my wife. I read a post from Horns about this but I doubt I am at the level that he is espousing. When I really think about it, I think there is still some anger in the many rejections I have gotten so my ego is stopping me from initiating properly to avoid being hurt. This is bullshit. When I was a porn user I would tell myself I didn't want to initiate because I didn't want to be rejected. All crap. I just preferr…

Mentally I feel I’ve been deteriorating more and more over time, especially since COVID hit. Probably the lack of a real social circle and being stuck in such a small space for so long, I'm still new at this, but this seems important to me. I think prioritizing meeting new straight male friends would help your mental state and get you out of the small space. Your goals seem backwards for your situation. Plan non-work activities and attending the rock climbing and running meet up group should be …

What's important though is the boundary that I have regarding this. It's important to me that the life we have is appreciated. I'm curious how you enforce this boundary? I am in a similar spot and I feel what I provide isn't appreciated and is taken for granted. Do I need/want more money? Nope. Do I want to be rich? Not really... I have a pretty comfortable life (by any metric, we're already pretty rich. i think i'm 98-99% Net Worth in my age bracket?). This hits home as well. I sold my equity s…

The rule acts as a stick ex-post. But ex-ante, being mindful about it constantly redirects your focus away from anything else than yourself. Perhaps this is another value of committing to writing weekly OYS: you are forced to think about you - or banned. Trying to learn this myself. Nice work.
