So, you mean a true friend offers more practical help, rather than just semantic help?

You're right...I should probably try and apologise a lot to my friend. I feel so stupid right now. Thanks for helping give a wake up call man

Hmm, I hadn't considered that. What do you consider to be enough in a friendship? I help her with schoolwork, when she's upset because of her ex boyfriend (I told her how I felt soon after they broke up). If people are rude to her or upset her, I generally stand up for her. But really, typing it out like that, it does just seem like normal friendship stuff.

My apologies if this was an inappropriate place to post this - I simply thought that this would be the best place, as the people here always have interesting discussions and seem mature and intelligent.

Honestly some of the stuff I did was to try and get her to think that I'd be a good person to be with, I wanted her to see that I'd try and make her happy if we were together. She's accepting of my feelings, they're just not reciprocated.

Sorry man, but I'm pretty sure that my friend knows that she doesn't want to be with me. She knows her own feelings better than I do, I mean after all, she's not me and I'm not her. If she doesn't want to be with me, then surely making her be with me would make her upset, like I would be upset if Callum wanted to make me be with him. That doesn't seem like it's in her best interests... I just think it's not right to try and force a girl to be in a situation she doesn't want to be in, I'd hate to…

Thanks for this pal. I hadn't considered that point.

She's helped me when my dad fell ill, which was an incredibly painful time for me. We've just had amazing times together, I don't really think of it in what has she done for me, because I don't feel that's the basal way that friendships work - I count someone as a wonderful friend if I enjoy our time spent together, we're pleasant to each other, they make me feel better by being around them, etc.

I did not put every single detail because I did not perceive every single detail to be significant. By my understanding at the time of posting, being put in the friend zone refers to when a guy has feelings for a girl when they are both friends, but she does not return these feelings, and says she'd rather be friends with him, essentially putting him in the "friend zone". I have since replied to another comment on this thread with examples, for example with my dad falling ill. I did not perceive…

Thank you for this reminder. It did feel tough immediately afterwards, and I did want some space from her, but ultimately she is a wonderful friend. Although it was rocky after the initial rejection, as I mentioned above, she did reassure me again that she cares for me as a friend - and I'm happy with that. I agree that it should be respected, as we must all look after our own feelings. As long as we don't harm others intentionally by what we do, or cause them unnecessary pain, it is okay in my …

I had some bad family stuff happen - my dad suddenly fell really ill, and when I felt like I could talk to nobody else, she was there for me. That's probably what made me fall for her, to be honest. That's just what springs to mind cause I don't know how I'd have made it through that without her. But there's other things, just in the way that she's friends with me, it's hard to explain, you know? But all the good times with her, managing to forget about being in pain for a while, we've just been…

The thing is, I've kind of accepted that she doesn't want to be with me. I'm just wondering if anyone has an argument for this, or any thoughts on this, seeing as guys tend to do this a lot to girls. Plus, the guys over at TRP can be kinda aggressive when talking about girls. The MRM seems much more mature than them.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
