That is the rub. The upside is that you don't have to act that way if you don't want to.

The second point is that the female exercising of soft power is feminine, just as much as getting in a bar fight is masculine (albeit a crude example) Agreed. Pontificating further... Once you have the rubric, you can see things which are not feminine strictly speaking. Being large and 'curvy' is generally speaking not feminine, unless you are damn attractive while doing so. This goes against the popular notion that these big woman are feminine. It's also not feminine to be shy, reserved, or wit…

What do you mean by "not friends"? As in foes, or simply not platonic? Friends want the best for each other. Foes want the worst for each other. Men and women (at least from the woman's perspective, while dating, do not care about the other's outcome. And where my outcome gets better and theirs might get even a smidgen worse, they might turn tail and run. This is the flighty nature of dating, and it was trying to understand this that led me to the rest of the post.

Along similar lines, I've been thinking lately that every marriage must have a dowry or a prenup (or both, if the situation warrants it). Since most marriages don't have dowries, most marriages should have prenups.

Interesting play on it. You've created your own institution instead of relying on a totally failed and inadequate existing one. That being said, just responding to your first line... A contract is somewhere between coercion and cooperation (which would naturally derive from two parties who individually want the same outcomes — your contract has to sort of coerce this to be the case). There is still the threat of a penalty. I would say that a civilized society is a transmutation of our natural dr…

What? You want to extend your spine so you become a weak fuck but are a couple inches taller? You must currently already be short AND weak.

In some ways, we actually do this in society as well. It is not the most stable version of society (that would be the ants, who are very stable, and workers are not people). But if you think about it, we throw men at war, whoever survives was right. We throw men at large problems, if they successfully build it they were right (many died during the creation of the great wall of china, we all know, but not many are aware of how many dead men are in the concrete of the hoover dam). In some ways we …

If you think about it, evolution is just a large pile of binary outcomes "survive, don't survive" thrown at the wall of random environmental problems. Whatever survives was the correct mutation. Right. At an individual level and group level, you would call it dysfunctional, but at a gene level, you might actually call it functional because it's doing its best to survive a difficult procreation environment. Dawkins, right yet again. I think a lot more men are getting to this point, and even some …

Utopia is just a label. It has no relation to the data.

That list came across to me as little more than an "if I were king" scenario. For all their central planning, I doubt even the People's Republic of China could manage to accomplish half of the points even if their sights were absolutely set on it. I agree. I was asking what set of compromises could an individual reasonably make that would reliably lead to a more satisfactory outcome, and I think the answer is really: not many, if any at all. Are you ready to get really specific?

As I see it, many of these things are indeed mirrored in today's western and first world countries. However it's the population density and access that I think is the big "over the top" moment for humanity. Yes. This is not a new situation. It's just exacerbated to new heights by what has transpired in the last decade or two. Evolution is run at warp speed as every single mating ritual (or lack of) is attempted to see which strategy is the best, which is binary evolution at work. Hence the homos…

In my opinion, our behavioural sink can be connected to loss of culture, spirituality, honour, respect, and belief in the unknown. It has made a slight genetic inconvenience become a major societal issue because we’ve over-valued the primal mind at the cost of our intellect and soul. This is a separate topic, but I basically agree with this. We destroyed our moral communities (church, community), so we can't make the tough decisions anymore. We can't conserve ideals over a long period of time, i…

The "utopia" in western civilization now is that women don't need men anymore Well, I think you get that you're using the word utopia differently. I'm not suggesting what most people in our society might perceive utopia to be. I'm saying "physical utopia" in the sense that there are more resources, more safety, etc that would just make life easier and easier. Also, I don't think it's one-sided. Yes, women are taught to not need men, but men are also taught to not need women. so of course they ar…

The physical properties of our existence have continuously gotten better, for at least a couple hundred years. No, not infinite, but more.

Relationships and people matter. I think that's the big one. A lot of people say that it's too expensive to have kids or enter a LTR these days, particularly at a young age, and I think it's just the opposite. People are wealthier now, but they feel less wealthy. Rather than settling for a situation in which you have less than the ideal in terms of money or physical possessions, while having those people and relationships in your life, people choose to toil away alone or give up and play. It's j…

Do you agree that there are many people out there of equal quality, and they might not see that in each other (thus, a feeling of settling), but they definitely aren't together. It's just logically impossible that such a large % of the population could be incompatible because they are not of the same quality. Part of the settling, I guess, is not just settling with the choice of person but the result of the entire game.

Moderation - what does this mean in a practical sense? Some sexual competition is healthy — do your hair, workout, go out to the bars. Strive for a raise at work. Learn some domestic skills that the other sex would like. But, don't lose yourself in those activities. This is all with the assumption that you actually believe having a LTR at the end of the day is the goal, and of course not everyone will even agree with that, so they won't see the point of moderation. That's fine and I'm not talkin…

Good answer. I think you're a little jaded though, or something. I just think things matter a little more than you do.

As per this sub, it probably explains why both men and women are turned off by perceived perfection in their partners. What? I'm not a regular to this sub, but I've never heard this before.

I think the criticisms are valid for taking the experiment too literally, but I believe it is valid for creating an environment in which a prisoner's dilemma exists for sexual strategy. And furthermore, that this prisoner's dilemma progressively gets worse and worse.

Ok, what do you think is the main point? I don't see those things resulting from compromise.

Being tough and knowing stuff is fun. I think for some of these things, the gender perceives the other has having it harder with a specific thing that the other gender has advantages for and might even enjoy their role or competence with it. I've never thought of it this way, but that's one reason gender roles actually make sense.

Narcissism is an unhealthy amount of a healthy thing. It is healthy to compete, to pursue self-improvement, and to make choices about who you let into your life. It is unhealthy when doing these things makes yourself and society dysfunctional. I don't think literally everyone is narcissistic, but I think that the culture is (because it's led by narcissists), and the narcissists make it really hard for the non-narcissists to survive. It shouldn't have to take as much self-awareness as people in t…

I will say that at the moment, I don't think either FDS or TRP are of significant enough in size nor influence to be part of the societal machinery, more like they are eddy pools on the sides of a stream Those communities are just extreme examples of broader trends. I think what you termed a sexual-social crisis is confirmable through society-wide statistics. I feel like your central thesis is not very clearly articulated. The central point is that excessive competition creates positive (self-re…

I'm going to laugh if the woman's defense is "it's fine if a man tells a man to 'man up', but I'm not allowed to do it?"
/r/PussyPassDenied02/03/21 07:28 AM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
