52F here. Great post. When husband went back to school and I supported us, we cut spending, tracked it, did without, minimized loans, etc. It's been over 15 years and we indulge a bit now, but we can easily got to the mall, not buy a damn thing, and not feel like we're deprived. You can listen to the advice from friends, but you don't have to take their advice. Good luck! I’ve gotten better at it. Well...I’ve gotten better at not directing anger at him. He hasn’t, but he’s trying. :( That’s why I have to think positive thoughts.
