When I was younger, if my sister hit me and I retaliated, she would get chastised along the lines of "you shouldn't hit your brother." I on the other hand would get "you shouldn't hit girls." My sister's violence against me, was looked at as only being against me. My violence against her was looked at as being against every girl.
