My cynical self suggests this is because many women don't want the burden of thinking for themselves. That doesn't have to be a cynical/negative thing. "Not thinking for themselves" in this case = being guided by emotion; and emotion is a beautiful catastrophe that makes up half the reason life is worth living. It's the difference between viewing mortality as a negative vs embracing it and loving the limited amount of life we have.
