I always saw “boys will be boys” as “kids will be kids” just gender-specific. I’ve heard “girls will be girls” too, it basically just means let kids act stupid for a while since it does no long term harm. What does do long term harm is repressing them. I have two nieces that fight all the time and when you force them to behave they just become miserable
