The quick way is mindfully doing new things so that you force your sense of self to catch up with and integrate your new behaviours with small but incremental (consistent) steps that compound on each other until the narrative of who you are is completely transformed. Act first then the mind follows. The long way is to think about changing your mental models but justify (hamster) why you’re not doing anything different but somehow make yourself believe you are until (hopefully) the pain of stayin…

This was such a good response u/Praexology, I'm going through the detox as well. In my own experience the fear of conflict stems from a lack of power. Power is being able to say no and walk away without serious ramifications for your own existence, it's hard to bite the hand that feeds so the best strategy is learning to feed yourself. Conflict is difficult when you depend on the ones you are creating conflict with. Eradicate learned helplessness and codependency through developing personal dign…

Statistician: 1 in 17 males reproduced historically Genghis Khan: I am all males. That's a great point about responses reactions to power dynamics. As per Barbie: what women say/think they want via Matrix programming is not what they actually want (or are attracted to)., e.g. they are told they want a sensitive man who is in touch with, and will share, his feelings? I think you nailed it here where you said "Women don’t fuck men because of their shit tier squat numbers. They want to be fucked by…

Thank you for being a swift purveyor of the profound: For points 1 and 2 my quick skim is that what makes good sex good sex says otherwise and lays out the real dynamic of how it all works. What gets me off is what gets her off. It was probably some Chad ape that said fuck living in these trees, and then the she-apes followed him, with the beta-Billy apes in tow. Iterate this across history? Point 3 is ironic because I’m watching Sandman on Netflix at the moment. Does he nail it?

Fuck that's so ironic about the coffee I've found myself in that same scenario more times then I'd like to admit! I like to have WAKE UP NEO reminder to get more in tune with myself moment to moment, thank you for being Morpheus. The post you sent me about being focused on my self-interest led me on a iterated thought journey of how to a degree women themselves are the Matrix. I heard this paradigm worded thus: As men we would have been content to be chilling in the trees as apes. Women said it'…

Thank you for your sage words per usual! The scenario you outlined happened in moving here, and it’s true what you said about no good deed going unpunished, I definitely caught the brunt of disempowering myself to empower someone else. The inverse was also true, my wife took a cut in all those things when we went to the U.S. The post you sent through was profound, it makes even more sense when I looked at it through the practical analogy you used of feeding the “blue” dog vs the “red” dog. My “r…

Far out mate thank you for sharing this with me, I don’t think any “positive psych hack” can match up to a true new lease on life from being that close to dying. When I reflect on the role fear has played in my life it’s clear that that is the underling force which feeds the “blue dog” rather than the DNGAF courage (despite fear) which feeds the “red dog”. Do you think fear plays a role in staying in the victim mentality?

Cheers for this wisdom and perspective, u/Tines0! I'm curious to read more about your glimpse over life's edge and what you got out of it. I think it's easy to look back and wish to alter past trajectories while having knowledge/experience from the outcomes of those experiences in the present. Applying that knowledge in moving forward is a more productive mental excercise than rumination.

Do you even want friends? Had your fiancé not said anything, would you be seeking them out? Now that your fiancé has said something, is seeking out friends a response to what you see as something that would be meaningful in your life, OR is it something that is a reaction to look a certain way to your fiancé? This is my opinion: floundering at her comments about not having friends is worse than not having friends. You can frame this situation however you like. Also, I believe you can’t really “m…

You’re right thank you for correcting me on this, I meant to put bent over row rather than OHP. I edited the correction. My deadlift day is coming up in which I’m going to increase the weight so next week’s OYS will reflect that.

Fuck this sock puppet illustration is profound, that was deep mate thank you for that. It’s literally that ridiculous, one having a conversation with a sock puppet in one’s own head And then trying to get that sock puppet to fuck you? Insanity.

What I got from this is that it sounds like you're being a responsible captain who is charting a positive course and building a strong foundation which will benefit the both of you in the long term, especially if/when you get married. As shitty as it is at present it is fundamentally positive. My question is if she's giving you shit for this and is it causing friction? What is it that makes you feel like telling her this? “The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience…

This is a good point, thank you for calling me out on this. Having an improved track record of better decision making is something that would make my life better and in turn me feel better about myself. “If I’m a good husband… then I’ll have a problem free sex life with my wife.” Defining what is a good husband is my task and living up to that is my duty. Not for her, but for how I view myself. Bettering our sex life is my responsibility and it’s not something I’m expecting of her, but in all ho…

Yes I definitely tend to get stuck in my head and take things to a metaphysical level. I’ll keep things down to brass tacks with the practical application of theoretical concepts (and avoid psychobabble). I’ll check out Psycho Cybernetics as well! Visualizing I’m stuck at a crossroads between choosing two “future selves”: one that stays in Australia and one that goes back to Hawaii.

Thank you for the tips brother I went for a surf yesterday and like you said the rib pain was gone and I did much better with more stretching before. I have a high volume Bing Starfish twin so that aligned nicely. Where does the lack of integrity coming from: it’s connected to my lack of self-esteem (which I think comes from having a positively self reinforcing identity). I’ve had a frame (and therefore identity) that’s too fluid and haven’t taken the actions to maintain stronger boundaries. Bas…

Thank you for the well thought out response and tips mate! No I would never reject a genuine display of desire and I did not reject her, I was keen for it but it was my mind that said yes and my body that said no. I’ll keep desire of beauty in mind rather than nervousness of performance. It just doesn’t make logical sense to me that this would happen because I’ve never not wanted to have sex? Fuck this was a great response! Initialing is my major area of improvement and this totally shifted my perspective on what feels to be the cross between the frustration of solving a Rubik’s Cube and me being a dentist to get someone to “open up” passive aggressively: it need not be that way.

Thank you sharing those wise words! I had a follow up question in regards to dread: anytime my wife feels dread rather than trying to please me she gets angry and shuts down? For example, if a girl hits on me we’ll get home and she’ll sulk and either be snippy (“idk why don’t you just ask that girl from earlier!”) or give me the silent treatment. I can’t square the circle there?

This is such a great quote! If you’re a (recovering) Nice Guy it takes more Stoic grit to say “NO” than it does to let shit slide. Niceness is NOT a moral virtue.
