another flaw in the study is mating success is self reported. Men who feel the need to develop a powerful frame may be more insecure on average and thus would like to report higher mating success even if not the case. Frame is still important tho

I don't think that's actually the case. A lot of insecure guys try to comfort themselves with arrogrance and bullying others. The more insecure they are, the more these behaviors increase. Doesn't help that insecure people often DO have alot to be insecure about and are frequently reminded of it leading to lashing out and antisocial behaviors. Lotta good lectures on how serotonin relates to aggression and anti social behaviors.
