Eh, I mean I know I'm pretty unattractive. It is what it is, there are things I like about myself, just not aesthetics. I have a couple cool physical features, but unfortunately they're not enough to make me model tier, haha (although ironically I did model as a kid once). I think most men treat unattractive AND attractive women like shit, like you said. The only difference is if it's dog poop or cat poop.

The only thing forgiving my ex for visiting dating sites did was encourage him to move to chat apps.

I gotta say, I am always astounded by what these costume companies manage to make "sexy" versions of. Sexy taco? Sure! Sexy Sesame Street character? You got it! No joke, I once saw a "sexy George Washington" costume online. It was...jarring.

I completely agree. It took him years to break me down, I'm not going to be back to normal in less than a year. But I'm childfree, and don't plan on ever marrying again. So there's no rush for me at all :) Weight loss is most sustainable when it's slow and steady, and therapy takes time too. Just getting the financial shit finished with the divorce. Ironically, I'm going to be paying HIM tons of money- he tried his darndest to be a toxic, masculine, dominant man and is going to end up depending …

My glow up has been slow but steady. I'm happier than I've been in years. Changing the way I dress. Getting back into hobbies and TV shows I like. 17 pounds down. It's amazing how much chronic stress and depression holds you back. You spend so much damn one on surviving in crisis mode that you barely even know what to do with all this suddenly free emotional bandwidth. I have a long way to go, and my ex still finds ways to stress me out and harass me at times. But it's such an amazing difference…

Oh sorry, no, I didn't mean that. It was more that average or below average men will not consider anything less than a model as their partner, regardless of the realism of that pairing. I didn't mean to imply certain women aren't entitled to specific partners. More that many men think they're entitled to specific partners.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy22/07/21 04:40 PM

Exactly this. Men complain about women not wanting to date them, but what they really mean is women out of their league not wanting to date them.

I'm ugly no matter how much I weigh, so men rarely treat me like a human being either way. Being overweight is nice because you're just invisible. No catcalls, no leering, no anxiety about dating. That said, I AM trying to lose weight for my own health and to fit into certain brands a little better. Men treat skinny women and big women like shit, the only question is whether it's dog shit or cat shit.

Childfree here. You made a really good point about misogyny related to women's roles outside of parenting. Women who work full time jobs are often expected to do the lion's share of cleaning, cooking, and pet care (if you have pets). Our hard earned careers are expected to be placed on the back burner to accommodate a partner in a vastly unequal division of domestic labor. One thing that always infuriated me was being expected to do all those tasks, in spite of the fact that I had a demanding fu…

I'm currently dealing with one now (having to pay out a ludicrous amount of money for home equity in a divorce). If I'm unlucky, it's gonna be hundreds of dollars a month for almost 5 years. They are resentful of any asset that gives us an advantage or confidence. I have an advanced degree, a couple of publications. Not trying to sound arrogant, but my IQ is formidable (had to get tested to attend the school I went to, so I know the number and stats). Statistically and practically, my intelligence exceeds most human beings. Again, not trying to sound arrogant or edgy. It's just a feature I'm aware of. I also think the antidepressant thing has a lot to do with the evolution of modern medicine. A lot more people are diagnosed with cancer today than 200 years ago. Why? Because we have far more advanced tools to detect it! It's not that more people are getting cancer, it's that more people are getting diagnosed. Same with mental illness. People have been depressed since the dawn of humanity. It's genetic. Psychiatry is just more advanced now. We know it's not "unbalanced humors" or "hysteria", it…

Honestly the only difference between attractive and unattractive dates I've had is how they disrespected me. Good looking guys were (somewhat) sleazy...superficially nice but ultimately only "hit it and quit it" types. Less attractive guys were insecure and took it out on me. The good looking dudes never felt the need to "take me down a peg" to make themselves feel better, but the unattractive ones did. I'm opting out of both right now, but I'd definitely rather have superficial kindness and bei…

Yes, I really enjoy being single. You're right...life is so much less complicated that way. I used to hate it, I tied my self worth to being in relationships. But after being married, I can really say there's nothing special about it. It's so much more gratifying to live a life of freedom! If I meet someone, cool. But I don't think I'll ever marry again. It's just not worth it. Dating is purely for socialization and amusement.

Ditto. Working on myself. Lots of therapy. Rediscovering all the things about myself I used to love until my ex made me hate them. Fashion (I have a very specific aesthetic I used to enjoy). Weight loss (16.4 lbs as of this morning, woohoo!). Being super nerdy about science (currently listening to an audiobook about the history of the periodic table). Watching all my favorite TV shows. It feels so good to embrace the things I love again. I decided not to date until I reach my goal weight. Not be…

Yup. When I pointed out his violent behavior, my ex got outraged because he "treats women well" and "never laid a finger on women". They think they're some kind of great person simply because they don't hit us- that's toddler level acceptable behavior standards. Then he accused ME of abusing him when I demanded an apology.

This happened with my ex. I told the divorce lawyer about it, characterizing it as "possibly mild domestic violence". He'd broken shit, punched holes in things, threatened himself, accidentally hurt me a few times in rages. But because he never straight up punched me, I wasn't sure it "counted" as DV. I'll never forget what the lawyer told me. "That's more like moderate to severe domestic violence in my opinion. And it's good you got out when you did, because it never gets better. There's a lot …

I thought I had Covid last year (turned out not to be, thank goodness!), had all the symptoms. Was getting winded going up a single flight of stairs. Wheezing, muscle pain, etc. My ex was recovering from surgery. He was perfectly able to get around to do his hobbies and see his friends (and had been for weeks), but played up the "convalescent" card when it came time for chores. My ex husband made disparaging comments about my wardrobe to me. I, like a desperate schmuck, changed how I dressed for him. My family noticed and commented on it. I was ashamed, but hey, I had to live with the guy. I'm slowly rebuilding my wardrobe now. I'm losing weight too, which is a great excuse to go shopping. I lived in Russia for a couple of months and I learned that Eastern European women are STONE COLD BADASSES. Even the traditionally "feminine", demure ones. Every woman I knew was confident, ruthlessly assertive, and self assured. My ex did that shit all the time. Got mad and accused me of being crazy when I reasonably pointed out behavior I didn't like. When he got mad? At one or two points he literally just screamed incoherently. I burst out laughing. So he screamed more. No words, just noise. And then he stamped his feet. Like a toddler. But yeah, women are the emotional ones. At least I never punched holes in a door.

One of my best friends married a former welder (he has another trade type job now) and he treats her like gold. It's the same reason people in abusive relationships are discouraged from couple's counseling. All it does is give the abusive partner ammo and helps them gaslight more effectively.

Getting there. I actually did gain a fair amount of weight while we were together (stress hormones and autoimmune disorders are a bitch) but I'm losing now! My skinny ex used to call me fat A LOT. He was extremely insecure about how scrawny he was, though (borderline underweight and very narrow shoulders) so I feel like it came from the same place. All the protein powder in the world didn't make him any bigger. He did this after learning I was bulimic, too. A real nice guy.

Some of it has to do with "taking us down a peg", bringing us down to their level. Like others said, it's a control thing. But it's also an insecurity thing. Smart men don't go out of their way to make women feel stupid. Attractive men don't feel the need to make women feel ugly. Men in good shape don't feel the need to call women fat. It's all about bringing us down, making sure we don't see our own worth and get too "uppity".
