I can relate; my wife shared a bunch of details about her sexual past early on in our relationship (unprompted) and I never gave it a second thought until we had been together for 7 years, married for several years at that point, and we went through a rough patch.. suddenly, retroactive jealousy hit me hard and I have been dealing with it ever since (13+ years now). Some more details did come out around that time and like the song says.. the less I know the better. There are pretty good resource…

I am no authority and am still working through my own version of this but my relationship with my wife does share some similarities to yours and I have some personal experience here. One thing that has helped me when dealing with retroactive jealousy is to treat it as a side effect of my own insecurity. Turning all of my focus inward and concentrating my thoughts and energy on becoming a better version of myself, rather than agonizing over what my wife did with any ex boyfriend, keeps me aligned…

I said that diet is the #1 thing I need to work on but is it not also a good idea to make sure I am actually doing the lifts correctly?

I was called out in my previous OYS because my lifts are weak for my size (6’2 182lbs.) and the amount of time I have been running my current lifting program (GZCLP for 6 months minus a week or two for vacation/illness). I have taken the advice to not program hop and I am staying on GZCLP, though I am making sure to incorporate more T3/accessory work than I was doing previously. I have also switched from lifting 3 days a week to 4 (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday). But most of my main compound li…

It was a mistake to not watch my nutrition more closely when I started lifting. Now that I have actually been tracking my calories/macros it is likely that I was eating at or below maintenance most days since starting the LP, which would explain why I made steady progress and then stalled early. Maybe 4 day a week GZCLP with more T3 lifts is the way to go. Either way, I know I need to eat more.

OYS #15 Stats: 42 6’2” 170lbs Lifts: Beginner/Novice GZCLP Family: Wife, 3 kids under 10 Reading: MMSLP Wasn’t sure whether to count this as #15 or reset back to #1 because I have lapsed for 6 months. That 6-month lapse is my main focal point this week because it has been my pattern for the past decade. Some type of low/medium crisis occurs, I respond by determining to get my shit together for real this time, and for a few months I lift consistently, work on building my frame, take more ownershi…

Thanks for all the advice here. I have done a bit of a reset in the process of switching programs from GSLP to GZCLP but within the month I should be back to PR weights on most of the lifts and with the new programming I am hoping to be able to push past the levels where I had stalled out in the past. I also saw a trainer to get some advice on form. But I have never actually failed on a lift, and I'll take your advice about actually trying out the safety bars when I need to. It has been years si…

My typical routine is work -> family dinner -> spend an hour or two with the kids before bedtime -> kids bedtime -> wife and I head to the couch and watch TV for an hour while the kids fall asleep. There’s not really any room for time alone with her until 9:30pm at best. Once upon a time I used to have a pretty good success rate making a move on the couch while watching TV at least. If I wait until after we watch something and head upstairs to bed she’s usually already half asleep. I am definite…

I do progressively heavier warm up sets before my working sets, and 5 minutes on a stationary bike before I start lifting, but I think I have pretty poor mobility overall. I made an appointment with a local strength coach for next week so I can get some critiques/advice.

Good advice, thanks. I do think a lot of this is a symptom of not gaming my wife and finding ways for us to do things together independent of the kids. And me not taking the lead on having fun times with the kids on my own. I mentioned in a different comment that I have a power rack/barbell setup at home, which is nice, but yet another factor in me not getting out of the house much.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a power cage in my house which is where I’ve been doing my lifting with an olympic bar and basic 300 pound set of plates. Upside is that it’s very convenient and gives me fewer excuses not to lift, downside is that going to a gym would get me out of the house more (and give me more options for accessory work). I have been doing GSLP for 2-3 months now but started light (in retrospect probably too light) on all the lifts because I wanted to work on form and ramp b…

I am thinking of it as the opposite of neglect, that I have been too present at home. I looked at myself and felt like I was giving my kids a model of fatherhood that is subservient to their mother and isn't bringing anything to the marital relationship beyond a paycheck, and who let his marriage erase whatever sense of self identity and interests I once had. A big part of trying to un-fuck myself is wanting to learn what I should be passing on to my sons to help them avoid a lot of painful mist…

Right on, thanks. Separating my actions/desires from my wife's responses is one of the things I'm still struggling with in these early stages of my MAP. I think you nailed it that a lot of this is just representative of the power balance in the relationship as it's stood for most of the past 17-18 years we've been together and my descent into unattractiveness. For whatever improvements I think I've made or however I have course corrected in the past 2-3 months, I am still objectively at probably…

I might be using the term incorrectly, but I was looking at my lack of abundance mentality as a symptom of low self confidence. I had not thought about the implication that I do not want to be alone and why that might be. Putting some more thought into it, there was some degree of irrational fear that my wife could theoretically cheat/get into a new relationship and that I would not be able to attract a new woman if I ended up single again. But even if that were true I’m probably feeling that wa…
