You dodged a bullet, believe me! I’ve been on here before; my father never managed to get a divorce because he was completely crushed and destroyed by my mother. Do not look back; don’t get drawn into her narrative: her happiness, her boyfriend, her plans etc. This is all just ‘noise’ to try to distract you from your new path in life; keep facing forward, you’re heading towards a bright future with your children by your side.

I’m getting sick of this narrative! Why don’t they look at female narcissists like my mom? She basically tortured my dad until the day she died; he was so brainwashed and damaged, he couldn’t get a divorce. He had Stockholm Syndrome from all her abuse; after she died we only had 3 years with him until he passed away last August. Today is Father’s Day in the UK: I love you Dad; always and forever x

Good for you! My father’s life was destroyed the day he got married; he had no idea that my mom had narcissistic personality disorder; she controlled him and his children until the day she died. We only had 3 more years with him and he was a kinder, nicer person without her. As long as you stay close to your children; live life on your terms and don’t look back. Also, I think I get downvoted by angry women who come on here; I don’t care so go right ahead.

This is incredible and makes me wonder who my own father could’ve been if he hadn’t married my mother. He really did believe that she was the ‘only one’ and she terrorised him and humiliated him until the day she died. We (3 daughters) only had him for 3 more years until he also passed away last August. Do not stay in an unhappy marriage; for your sake and for your children’s sake, please leave. Get a divorce and free yourself; find the life you deserve.

You’re NOT an idiot. My father would not get a divorce; he couldn’t accept that his wife (my mother) was emotionally abusive and did not love him, so he lived in a state of denial. Accepting the truth is the hardest part; that’s when it hurts and you’re vulnerable. Remember: the pain doesn’t get smaller but your life gets bigger. Make your life amazing; you’re worth it!

⬆️THIS OP, my dad was very similar to you; sadly he never managed to get a divorce and find out who he truly was. Strange as it may seem, this is your beginning and not your end. It is time to get your depression/mental health in check (everything else is background noise). Maybe different medication or CBT; Zoom support groups etc. The pain doesn’t get smaller, but your life gets bigger.

This IS a blessing my friend. You sound like you have been the victim of narcissistic abuse and domestic violence; I urge you to get therapy and work on yourself. My mother had Narcissistic Personality Disorder and I wish that my father had divorced her and taken his children with him. It’s too late for my dad, but not for you; find yourself again: hobbies, fitness, new/old friends. Do NOT look back.

My mom sounded just like your ex; if only my dad had divorced her? I’m a long time lurker; living vicariously through this sub. No husband is responsible for making their wife happy; you deserve to be free. I’m happy for you.

Check out any online or Skype support groups in your area: father’s rights, parental alienation etc. Reaching out to other men in a similar situation can help, they may have specific advice/information for you. Please don’t give up.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
