Yes, obviously. My taste is very minimalistic with a limited color scheme and thinking about cleaning all of those intricate sconces and vintage little things gives me anxiety. I know some people find minimalism incredibly boring. To each their own. I admire looking at these pieces in someone else’s home, especially if they’re inherited items with a story. I am wow’d by people who can decorate so beautifully. It’s just not for me. Edit: clarity.

1, 2, & 3: agree. No white. Been there, done that, on my hands and knees scrubbing and cursing under my breath at the previous owners of my home who thought it was a good idea to put in white ceramic floor in a kitchen. Thanks for the good laugh! 🤣

I posted something about a month ago on this sub regarding gossip and cattiness at work. FWIW, I’m a nurse, and COVID has my coworkers a bit on edge. It’s also pretty common in nursing for whatever reason to “eat their young”. A gorgeous, intelligent, and kind attending physician recently joined our team, and the older nurses give her hell while us younger staff absolutely respect her. Could it be jealousy of your age/appearance? Some older women are insecure in themselves unfortunately and woul…

Do you have any hobbies? I met my husband at the fitness studio where I work and we bonded over our priority to be healthy and fit. When this quarantine is over, is it possible for you to join local meet up groups that pique your interests? You’ll meet like minded people and get to network.

A pelvic floor physical therapist is a GREAT person to have as part of your pre/post pregnancy preparation and recovery, especially for diastiasis recti. Please remember that each woman’s pregnancy is different and I was SO sick in the first trimester and lost a lot of weight, so I had an uphill climb returning to fitness in my 2nd and 3rd trimesters. FWIW, I think it’s great that you’re thinking about all of this prior to having children! Your future kids will thank you 😊

You’re so welcome! I started my fitness routine with hot yoga, and still practice along with CrossFit. Yoga’s been so good for my mind. 😊 I understand that my situation is somewhat unique, as most jobs are all-or-nothing, and when everyone is off on the weekends that my time to work. We have twin boys and they keep me busy. They are VERY curious and active and they are almost 3. I am extremely fulfilled being a SAHM M-F, working weekends, and sprinkling teaching fitness classes in between. “I th…

Mine was never really a shift-I always knew I could have both career and family, with a little planning and time management. I worked full time as an ICU nurse and part time as a fitness instructor for 6 years before I met my husband. TBH I chose nursing as my career in high school knowing I wanted a future family. The knowledge I’ve gained from my studies and experience has helped me to navigate the healthcare system for aging parents, be an advocate for myself when I get sick (diagnosed myself…

I love charcuterie and wine night-you can even go to your local liquor state store (or elsewhere, my state has weird and dated liquor laws and that’s where we buy it) and ask them about wine/cheese pairings! It’s fun to buy some cheeses and meats you may haven’t tried before and pop open a bottle of vino! I’m a bit older than you, and I don’t know if this is feasible, but my friends and I did a wine tasting at a local winery to celebrate my 21st birthday then went out to a “fancy” dinner-my firs…

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment! I appreciate your personal antidote-turning down recommending a former gossipy boss and sticking to your guns and being honest. I really admire that in others. :)

Thank you for the reminder to stay true to my values. I never considered it might be insecurity-on one hand, I admire these women as nurses because they make ICU nursing seem so smooth and they never appear surprised or stressed and are incredibly professional in the presence of patients. On the other hand, it reminds me of being in high school all over again and overhearing groups of girls being catty.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to communicate-you hit the nail on the head. I have always seen the good in others-maybe too much to a fault, but I much prefer to draw conclusions about people based on personal interactions, rather than suspicions through the grapevine.

That’s what I need to remember-perhaps gossip is a coping mechanism to deal with the crises we see on a daily basis. Hope you and your family are safe during this pandemic-I’ve heard its rough in some places!

I think I’m going to request to meet with manager soon. Humility is ladylike, and I was the one who asked for constructive feedback. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn a thing or two (or three!) than I can improve!

Oh, my manger knows I’m on the quieter side. I am part of the younger staff where I work and a lot of the experienced/older nurses can gossip while doing complicated, time consuming nursing tasks, while I need silence to be completely focused on what I’m doing to ensure I’m not missing any marks!

“My policy with coworkers is to say that I don't want to know the names of people that they want to talk about. I like to make my own opinion of people. The exception being that the person in question is to be avoided for safety or toxicity reasons.” This is excellent. Thank you!

I’ve never thought of this. I’ve also never been in a management position, either. It’s kind of sad and amusing. That is incredibly childish of your workers. That’s exactly what I’m worried about-putting myself out there, draining my emotional/energy tank forcing myself to talk more, and then getting mocked.

Thanks so much for reply! It sounds like you’re someone I would enjoy working with. :) All in all, I’m in excellent standing as a nurse and that’s what it boils down to-caring for my patients, keeping them safe, and working hard to get them healthy and out of the ICU. My manager voiced how much of an asset I am to the unit and to the hospital so I take it as I’m on the right path.

You have great advice, Kara. I’m trying to keep my path on the high road and just rise about the pettiness of it all. My manager is new, and she’s only been in her position for a year. I guess a part of me would rather hear examples straight from my coworkers who have gone to her and complained. I can be perceiving myself so differently than my coworkers-I’ll be checking in with myself more frequently and paying close attention to facial expressions, body language, etc. Who knows, maybe I’ll rea…

AvalonPlum, thank you so, so much. I absolutely love my job (and thankfully my hospital has PPE!) I hope your family members who work in healthcare are keeping themselves safe and healthy as possible!

Agree! When I had my twins I asked for advice about pumping for 2, nutrition, sleep...and connected with my coworkers easily in that manner. I really do try to remember important things going on in their lives that I use to deflect having to talk about myself/halting gossip.

Oh I can definitely handle criticism if that what you’re alluding to. I specifically asked my manager for criticism/area of improvement which is stated in the OP. I fail to see how refusing to participate in bad mouthing others has literally ANYTHING to do with taking care of my critically ill patients. As stated above, my manager’s only constructive feedback has nothing to do with my performance as a nurse.

Yes; however this was more of a casual observation by my manager and there’s no horizontal violence (yet!) If it worsens, I plan to meet with HR.

It’s definitely cliquey, it’s just surprising to me that grown women act that way. I will mentally take note of my facial expressions moving forward. I already make eye contact and smile when they’re gossiping to express acknowledgement.

Thanks for the reminder that’s it’s not my responsibility! I often need to remember that I’m responsible only for myself, not the actions/reactions of others.

Your responses are absolutely on point and make so much sense (I’ve peeked around a few different threads). Different women DO thrive differently. And none of it is inherently “wrong”. As long as it’s discussed with your husband, as far as I’m concerned, it’s all good as long as he is supportive and your values are aligned. These comments about day drinking in order to deal with children at home while teaching and taking conference calls simultaneously make me wonder if these women are closet al…

Hold up...this comment is from a person who JUST began staying at home? Boggles my mind that because others have trouble keeping up with tasks, are tired, and don’t have flexibility in their job doesn’t mean we all do. You measure your OWN value-and if you’ve found value in your career for years because that’s what society has told you what’s important and that being a SAHM/SAHW isn’t, and you feel as if a career is “settling”, then it’s time for some deep examination of internalized beliefs.

Thanks SO much for sharing! This is a great perspective. I have both worlds-SAHM during the week, and working long shifts Sat/Sun. Most of my mom friends are either in the medical field or SAHMs-and they both thrive in their personal lives. I have seen those “mommy needs wine” memes-maybe it’s more of a lighthearted joke during this time of fear and uncertainty. Idk-just my opinion and I tend to look on the bright side. I’ve had the opposite experience-I’ve been told I’m missing out on so much w…

I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to support your mom friends, especially those frustrated and struggling and navigating this quarantine. I care about my friends and whenever I can lend a helping hand or offer a piece of wanted advice or drop off a homemade treat I do.

“It is interesting watching my career mom friends have absolutely no idea what to do with their children. They don't understand basic concepts like structured and unstructured play, routines, schedules, etc. Someone else is doing all the parenting all day, and they get to be a part-time parent at night and on weekends. For some of them, quarantine is driving them nuts.” Your career mom friends would probably benefit from your wisdom and experience of being a homemaker, and you can offer support a…

I normally work part time (24 hours a week), and the 50 hour work week is short term. I agree that it’d be difficult to maintain in the long run. I am extremely efficient and have excellent time management skills-friends with and without children, who are SAHM/SAHW and those with careers have always asked me for advice on being so productive while organized, fit, and happy. I’ve always had an incredible amount of energy and don’t tire easily. Everyone is different and family has ALWAYS been at t…

I’m on the front lines working as an ICU nurse in a busy hospital. I usually work part time but have picked up more shifts lately, working almost 50 hours each week. Like I always have done, I continue to go to work AND still carve out time to exercise, create delicious homemade meals, keep the house clean and organized, entertain the kiddos, and keep my husband satisfied. It’s all about time management and it’s obvious that many people are just recognizing that feminists/women who work can thri…

I’m unsure what you mean by correcting “QI to achieve professional success”. I’m a nurse, working part time, and a fitness instructor, working part time. I work less than my husband and make almost the same amount of money, and my jobs allow me flexibility to stay home with our twins 5 days/week. For me personally, that’s what I consider professional success as a woman: making a good salary only working part time, enjoying my chosen profession, while having dinner ready, the house clean, and giv…

Same, girl. I was always thin and took excellent care of myself, wore makeup, flattering clothes, was kind and respectful to others, but ughh...my face! My parents didn’t have all of that extra money to send me to a dermatologist for medical grade treatments and there’s NO WAY I would have taken Accuntane with all of the awful side effects/risks. I am glad you are continuing to live a healthy lifestyle & I can relate on how my rhinoplasty helped to make my self confidence soar.
/r/RedPillWomen03/04/20 09:09 PM

This is a great question. Only 2 men, 1 being my husband, and the other my ex-fiancé, knew I had a rhinoplasty. I really didn’t go on many serious dates with men. It wasn’t for the sake of simply vanity (“my nose to too big” or crooked by 1/10 of an inch, or other unnecessary reasons for example). I had such terrible acne scarring that my nose had become misshapen and I was having frequent sinus infections. Surgery is no joke-I had to take a full month off from work and HIIT exercise and I had b…

I did all of that, but drinking water, eating veggies, wearing feminine clothes/makeup, having a sweet demeanor, being kind, and doing Pilates did absolutely nothing to correct my face lol.

I believe I attracted all types of men actually. TBH it was difficult to weed out which ones wanted sex and which ones were interested in commitment and marriage.
/r/RedPillWomen03/04/20 04:41 PM

Can verify this. I was an unattractive teen and it wasn’t after I attended college and began working that I paid thousands of dollars out of pocket for plastic surgery/rhinoplasty for severe acne. Thankfully there were no complications! I was always thin, but my face just wasn’t nice to look at. I was incredibly uncomfortable with the sudden male attention and also angry for the amount of money I had to spend on myself in order to attract a man.

I’m thinking no bra vs. a supportive or even a push up bra...can mimick a different shape/appearance.

Totally agree! He prefers the yoga pants (I am a fitness instructor part time), ponytail, and no-makeup look and always has. A little mascara and lipstick do go along way, no matter what you’re wearing! It’s that little something extra.

Agree! My husband prefers me in form fitting athletic wear any time, any day, over a dress and heels at home. He obviously appreciates the effort I put into my appearance if we’re attending a wedding or gala. The frequent sex helps, too.

I work part time on weekends, so I’m home M-F. Hubby works out of the house. Growing up, my mom was very much into keeping routines and I think that it’s just been ingrained to me from an early age. My husband is pretty laid back about almost everything so that helps! I change our towels/sheets twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and those are laundry days as well. I do the grocery shopping and meal prep on Fridays, to prepare for the weekend (I prefer to have home cooked meals at work and m…

Nursing has been an awesome career for me. Sure, it’s stressful, and yes, you have to interact and be nice to your patients. Many hospitals have a weekend program-I work daylight shifts only, every Sat and Sun, and get a full time salary (60K) working a mere 2 days a week. Many of my coworkers do not have a Bachelor’s degree and it’s currently not required. It’s also great knowledge to have as parents age, kids get sick, elderly neighbors have questions about their medication, etc. I get to be h…
