I’m going to jump in here to clear up some misconceptions about HSV because I think it’s important that everyone on this sub actually have accurate information about this STI. One of the reasons that HSV is one of the most widespread STIs is that it can lie undetected (during which time the person is called “asymptomatic”) in the human body for long period of months or even years. During these asymptomatic periods, a person is infectious but they may not know they have herpes, especially if they…

I’m gunna get hate for this, but as someone who works in healthcare I found the comments about STDs at the beginning of this week’s podcast harmful, callous, and stigmatizing. If we say that every man who has AIDS or herpes is an immediate avoid at all costs then what does that say about women who also have these diseases? That all women who have chronic, incurable STDs are also LV regardless of how great they are otherwise? People usually don’t choose to get STDs and there is always a risk for …

I dropped a very close guy friend in college due to this. A mutual friend of ours had gotten really drunk at a party and threatened me with violence- he made me scared for my life. My close “friend” apologized and said what mutual friend had done was fucked up, but also made excuses for the violent one, saying “that’s just the way he is” and continued to hang out with him. I couldn’t look at close friend the same once I realized he didn’t actually give a single fuck about my safety or feelings. …

I used to feel this way when I was younger, and looking back I realized it was because I wasn’t dating men I loved, I was dating anyone who gave me attention and made me feel like I was worth loving. Knowing this, I’m of the mindset that anyone who says “I’ve never been in love” but has had multiple partners hasn’t done enough work on themselves to be dating.

Well if it makes you feel any better, we’re on to the DSM-5 now, which has been updated in many ways. While I don’t have access to a DSM-IV (which this post claims to cite), the DSM-5 sitting on my desk includes almost no discussion on gender differences in depression symptomatology, and certainly doesn’t include this chart. I love FDS, I really truly do, but as someone in the mental health field the amount of misinformation this sub spreads about mental illness is very upsetting to me. Citing o…

I think about this a lot too. In my previous relationship I realized my ex was only cursorily brushing his teeth once a day, to the point where it was visibly obvious and his breath smelled. When I finally told him I’d appreciate it if he’d at least brush his teeth twice a day, he had the audacity to get upset at me and went all “woe-is-me” on me. I think it comes down to a combo of toxic masculinity and just never facing any consequences for lazy basic grooming. Things like taking care of your …

Oooh I got the hair one a lot when I had my hair dyed blue in college. “I usually hate crazy hair colors but it looks so good on you” was a common refrain and one I still hear if I show men pictures from that time. Like no, I’m not the only woman who has ever looked good with an unconventional hair color, you’re just shallow and judgemental and you’re trying to cover that up by acting like I’m the exception to the rule.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m Bi and a gay friend of mine recommended the app Her to me for wlw dating. He said some of his other bi/lesbian friends really liked it and had a decent amount of success there. Also yes I know this post is like 4 months old lol but I hope the info can still be useful to people looking through old posts like me!

I work in the psych field and I just wanted to chime with some thoughts I’ve heard from MFT’s, because I think it might clarify the therapist’s relationship in situations like this. Marriage and family therapists aren’t stupid. They can spot a LVM or NVM when he walks into the counseling room and if they’re smart they probably personally think the woman should leave him. But one of the central tenets in therapy is that you help the client achieve their goals, not help them do what the therapist …
