Fund my own lifestyle, not on government assistance, didn’t ask for alimony or child support, have a good job, don’t vilify my ex and share 50/50 custody. I’m interested where women like myself, who don’t fit your single mom stereotypes, fit into your worldview. Do you just move on to the next negative item on the SM stereotype checklist?

I declined both alimony and child support from my ex, and neither of us were the victims of the other. We have a good coparenting relationship and his new wife is lovely.

Genuine question - do you truly believe that all single moms are like this? If so, how does it fit in with your worldview when you see/meet single moms who have their shit together, aren’t interested in your money, and have a healthy relationship with their ex? In your mind, do you just assume all single moms, no matter what their circumstances, are trying to take men for a ride?

Again, many single moms do not need you to provide for them. I will never mix my finances with another adult again, nor would I ever expect anyone but myself and my ex to provide for our children. There are many are ‘single moms’, myself included, who share custody and their children’s expenses 50/50 with their ex. Do what you need to do when dating - ask all the questions, don’t mix finances, etc. But stop believing blanket statements that single moms are looking for a relationship to ‘make the…

There are a lot of single moms out there who fund their own lifestyles and their own children, and would never entangle their finances with a new partner, much less take money from them. This ‘most single moms are parasites who are after money and more children’ trope is exhausting.

I’ve heard horror stories from divorced male friends who had jealousy issues between their new girlfriend and the mother of their children. As a woman who had an amicable divorce, one of my concerns was that the next woman in my ex’s life would not be okay with our good coparenting relationship. On the flip side, I also would not date a man who doesn’t understand that. Thankfully my ex’s new wife is phenomenal and we all coparent well together.

Technically he earned about $10k more a year than I did. Alimony & child support would have been around $500/month, per the state calculations.

(Am a woman) I waived alimony and child support when we divorced (21 year marriage). We made relatively the same income and had agreed on 50/50 physical & legal custody. Plus he was carrying the health insurance for our two children. For me, requesting alimony and/or child support in that situation would have felt very unfair. He and I also both felt strongly that our children would be negatively affected if either one of us was put in a difficult financial situation. I will say that the judge l…

Absolutely. Gentlemen, your wives can’t ‘make’ you do anything. Stop being scared of her reactions, stop trying to keep the peace, just…STOP. This is going to sound harsh, but a lot of you have created your own marriage hell by allowing, even encouraging, such behavior. Eventually, you end up doing it all - working yourselves to death, managing the household, doing the majority of the parenting - because you’ve taught her that her happiness is the absolute most important thing in the lives of yo…
