There is a fundamental difference, it's called opportunity costs. If someone is paying to do manual labor in the gym that's because their time is worth more than what they would make "earning" that body on a farm. It would be stupid for an engineer to even bother learning how to be a farm hand, because their time is worth triple that or more.
