Thank you for such a well thought out post on this! I was trying to say something similar on my own about the several multi-billion dollar industries that profit from telling people: there's something wrong with you, here's how to fix it!

My husband and I worked together for a while and kept things very professional. So professional, that while people knew that we were both married, they were shocked to find out we were married to each other! We might have over done the professionalism, but seeing as he was my superior, we chose to err on the side of caution. That said, we were still affectionate, but not obviously so. I'd write him little notes, he'd give me certain looks, etc. I got NO special treatment from him. If anything, h…

Our pillow talk is... different, to say the least!

This might be a weird thing to brag about, but we were talking in bed the other night and he was telling me about how if anything bad happened to me, he probably go on a murderous rampage. All the murder! Bodies that would never be found! Naturally, I swooned. I mean so much to him that he would abandon the normal life he lives for the darker instincts he keeps deep under ravels because he loves me.

I can't wait for this challenge! But I'll have to. For like a week >.<

Lol, the same thing could be said about driving cars, using fossil fuels and eating animal products, yet many of us choose to do them.

I feel like I've experienced both sides of that! With my husband it's like the honeymoon period never ended, we've been together for over 5 years and are still that disgustingly affectionate couple. On the other hand, I did have an ex where once I wound up on his shitlist, there was no getting off it and the last year of our relationship was me desperately trying to please him and him running hardcore dread.

I'm not sure what you mean by this

The things that other people might say make him a jerk are things that literally don't apply to me. He's so stoic as to come across as cold or uncaring to some people, but cares so deeply about me (and shows it) that it's like I forget how other people perceive him. Does that put it into perspective more? He's never outright mean to other people, I'm just trying to frame what it's like to be with someone other people might think of as a jerk and how easy it is not to care what they think, becaus…

That's a fantastic point! The hot raging bitch who gets her bad behavior put up with because she's hot is totally a thing.

And if I'm ever on the receiving end, it'll be because he's human too. Bitch isn't a word anyone would use to describe me, but I have my less than stellar moments, and sometimes I make a snide comment without thinking things through. It's not a deal breaker for him, just like I doubt being on the receiving end would be a deal breaker for me. Frequency matters here though. Once in a very rare blue moon is forgivable, but consistently would be intolerable.

It's interesting that many men feel that way! I'd love to hear more from them about this. A women who is sweet to them, but a bitch to everyone else would be unattractive? What is it about that, that would off putting, while a man who is nice to a woman but an asshole to everyone is still attractive to her?

As long as he isn't a jerk to me (or servers/bartenders/cashiers) I don't really care! People might say my husband has some asshole qualities, but never towards me, so why would I care? I think that's the distinction most people are missing in this equation. Just because someone is a jerk to you doesn't mean they're a jerk to everyone.

I love to pamper my husband since it's unfortunately thought of as "emasculating" for men to receiving grooming services in a salon. I'll do things like trim his eyebrows when they get long and crazy, use a homemade blackhead treatment on his nose and rub his shoulders while he waits to wash it off. On a more practical level, sometimes I just give him shape ups between hair cuts to keep him looking fresh. He doesn't care enough to do these things for himself on a regular basis, but seems to real…

This thread made me look up what used to be my signature perfume and I'm thrilled to find that it's actually dropped in price over the years! I had put off buying any and stretched my last little bit forever using it only for special occasions, but now I'm excited to buy more. Since I used to wear it for special occasions, I'm hoping my husband will associate the scent of it with those happy times. He adores my natural scent and is always stealing my pillow and headscarves because they smell lik…

Wow, this is such a great challenge, I can't believe I missed the first few days! I'm gonna start now, and already have started in a few ways. I recently started a new job (less than a month ago) and I've been making an effort to wear make up everyday. Not a full face, but definitely playing up my beautiful eyes and making an effort to look polished. There is a uniform involved, but I've been able to make it more fun with accessories. Something I really want to focus on for myself here is that w…

Yes! So much this. My husband has pushed me forward and encouraged me in ways other people only ever talked about. He's helping me reach goals that aren't only my dreams, but things that will benefit us both in the long run! Sometimes the growth I've been doing has been stressful, challenging, maybe even uncomfortable, but ultimately it's so worth it. I love him even more for pushing me, always wanting my best.

We would ideally like someone that wants to be with us, like we see everywhere couples holding hands as they go to eat out and shit... don't really care about fucking a hot hooker much tbh.. I'm not saying you do this, but a lot of incels seem to reject the ideal of sleeping with hookers because they crave emotional intimacy. Why do they in turn get so butt hurt over women rejecting all the sex that's 'thrown at them daily' for the same reasons? Yes, women generally have an easier time getting s…

Do you like it because she's your fiancée or is it something you'd like on a stranger?

What if it was something she really thought through? Most people I know who get tattoos spend a lot of time thinking about what they want to get and where rather than getting something on a lark.

I've seen some older women with strikingly beautiful tattoos. I think it must be an amazing way to have memories from your youth carried with you. But, the tattoos that have aged the best are the ones that were well taken care of, with sunscreen and touch ups to keep them vibrant.

I'm late to this but just wanted to drop in with my results. My husband likes to initiate sex in the morning, which isn't always my favorite time for it. But instead of turning him down and trying to initiate later in the day, I just went with it! It was fantastic (ofcourse) and woke us up more than a cuppa! and I'm especially relieved at not having to initiate (and possibly get rejected) later.

My stylist suggested a keratin treatment to straighten my curls. I never did make the jump and try it, but it could be something to give a shot, especially if you live in a humid area like I do. My understanding is that it's more semi-permanent, so in a couple of months you'll be back to your curly self. I've also heard that certain dyes, like henna, can have a relaxing effect on your curls. And you don't have to go red, though true henna is only red, shades like indigo and or even one close to …

I don't think he's really protecting me from maturity or that I'm providing playing space for him. I think we're both mature, with a mutual agreement to be silly with each other for stress relief. I like what you're expressing here a lot. It takes two mature people to make a relationship work! But at the same time, cultivating the space to have that sort of silliness, however you express it as a couple, is important to having a healthy relationship.

I don't have a lot of advice for you, expect for maybe dating guys who have kids of their own too. They'll likely be a lot more understanding of your situation.

The advice is great so far, I just wanted to add on that there are a lot of posts about being his "soft place to land" and I think that applies here since he is going through hard times. I'm supporting my husband emotionally through some uncertain times and a key things for us has been letting him set the pace and come to me when he wants to vs me nagging him about what he's going to do, asking endlessly if he's okay, how I can help, etc etc. Hope this helps!

This reminds me of how the crazy wife in Gone Girl set up scavenger hunts for husband as a very self serving anniversary present; not sure if that's what you wanna go for.
