The top comment on this article is perfect. None of these comments will have an effect on Maggie, even if she reads them, because she's not interested in finding truth or actual justice. She's using a social justice narrative to further her own interests, obtain power, and cover up her insecurities. For her, the right answers are the ones that she immediately benefits from the most. The whole internal debate that this guy had is mind-numbingly retarded. With any other type of elective surgery people would say you're insane to get it unless it's fixing some sort of problem, but with circumcision we discard all rational thinking and keep doing it because... why exactly? Just find a different doctor. I suspect that vasectomies are fairly lucrative procedures for urologists in the US. They only take a few minutes and can be done in an office under local anesthetic. Any physician who asks for your wife's consent should be punished by being denied your business. Vote with your wallet.

The problem is that PSA screening has a very high false positive rate. Allowing people the option to get screened is one thing, but spreading a simplistic and inaccurate message of "early detection saves lives" is bad. Prostate cancer is much more complex than that.

This article is trash. As soon as the author said "early detection of prostate cancer saves lives" I stopped reading. The unfortunate reality is that overtreatment for prostate cancer is a huge problem. Many cases of it will grow extremely slowly and never harm anyone, but surgery for it can leave men impotent and incontient. PSA screening for the general population probably does more harm than good.

One thing that concerned me was the "when in doubt always call the cops" attitude that many people expressed. Obviously you should call the police if there's actual violence but please don't go dialing 911 at the drop of a hat. Far too many police officers in the US are uniformed thugs on a power trip who do more harm than good.

Are you sure about that? IANAL but my understanding was that US district courts only have to follow precedents from their appellate circuit or the US Supreme Court. The decisions of other district court judges may be instructive but they are not binding.

The bit about their bruises from practice being photographed is a sad reminder that even completely innocent people should never cooperate with the police.
