If you haven't already read it, this discussion and the paper on which it is based may interest you. It's not specifically regarding the term "toxic masculinity", but it does explain why that type of language may perpetuate gender bias.

Men are often portrayed as inherently violent and deserving of fear. That certainly wouldn't end if we were to enforce MRM ideals through violence. They may not publicly admit men are violent by nature for fear of retaliation, but they would privately and that's all that matters. That's assuming we succeed, anyway. (We wouldn't.) We aren't African American activists during the 20th century. We don't have well-educated and well-spoken leaders dictating what should be done and how exactly to go ab…

The only way we will get society to give a fuck about men is by making them most likely through violence unfortunately. No. Violence would only reinforce their prejudice. I understand your frustration, but there are better options.

Here's an image. The NHS published a point-based framework to help determine the treatment a COVID-19 patient should receive. The fewer points a patient has, the better their care. Regardless of pre-existing health conditions and age, women are deducted a point. It's a reasonable guide given that resources are scarce and there is no point in trying to save someone who will probably die when there are others in need, but it's nevertheless unsettling.

What we need is a figurehead to serve as a visible, public symbol. To empower people to speak freely, to give us a face. Definitely. That should be our priority. Who would it be, though? And how do we convince them to accept a role that may well ruin their public life? Second to that should be a stronger communications network. This subreddit does well to raise awareness, but it doesn't do much to encourage activism in the form of protests, contacting representatives, producing YouTube videos, e…

Right, I agree. I thought you took issue with men being considered victims. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
/r/MensRights21/03/20 01:49 AM

I'm not quite sure you understand why we're frustrated with this article. Portraying men as perpetrators and women as victims is making light of domestic violence. It's looking abused men in the face and telling them the abuse they suffered isn't "real abuse." There really is no greater insult to victims of domestic violence - to deny even the possibility of them having been victimized.

You should definitely archive any external references -- images, video, studies -- with archive.org or perma.cc. Link rot is a serious problem. You may also want to check out /u/dakru's blog and RBOMI for inspiration. Here are a few articles that I find particularly interesting: Defining, Demonstrating, and Understanding Male Disposability “The Future is Female”: The Bleak Outlook for Male Employment and Education The Women-Are-Wonderful Effect (We Don’t Live in a “Culture of Misogyny”) Justice …

I think /u/jolly_mcfats explained this phenomenon beautifully several years ago when asked why some MRAs associate with the far right. It doesn't quite apply to the right in general, but I still consider it relevant: Becoming a MRA does basically require that you stop trusting common wisdom about what is and isn't a hate group. You become distrustful of media because the MRM is most commonly only given hatchet job treatment from publications. It's often called "taking the red pill" because you b…

That's certainly possible. However, studies have found that teachers tend to give girls higher grades than boys for similar (sometimes equivalent) work (OECD pg 157, Boys Lag Behind: How Teachers’ Gender Biases Affect Student Achievement).

I spoke with ASA earlier today and was told this ad space was donated by the company who owns the billboards (Clear Channel UK). He didn't spend a dime to promote this bigotry.

It's at the Red Rose Centre on Regent Road in Salford, UK. It's on the property between the shopping center and the road. Giving an approximate location should be fine. There only appear to be two digital billboards in that area, and only one is owned by Clear Channel UK (the company who donated their ad space for these sexist messages). Here's a street map view: https://www.google.com/maps/place/The+Red+Rose+Centre/@53.4776898,-2.2750106,3a,75y,73.98h,86.45t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s0EpPAS1XaH3BEIQk…

I spoke with the ASA after seeing the first billboard posted here and discovered that the space was donated by Clear Channel UK. I encourage everyone here to send them a complaint demanding its removal: https://www.clearchannel.co.uk/contact. Please be polite and objective if you do decide to participate. Challenge them to seriously consider how the message might affect the young boys and vulnerable men who come by it. EDIT: I forgot to give the location: Red Rose Centre, Regent Road, Salford M5…

I've notified them. If anyone else decides to report the billboard, please include its location in your complaint description: Regent Rd near the Red Rose Retail Centre in Salford We may also want to contact the company who owns the billboard, which appears to be Clear Channel Direct. I've sent them an email to confirm. When they respond, I'll give an update. EDIT: I've heard back from the ASA: We understand the billboards in question have been donated by the media space owners to the artist Mar…

I would seriously consider medication and continued therapy (be selective with your therapists if you have to). It didn't end my depression and it probably wouldn't end yours, but it gave me enough of a boost that I could dig myself out of the hole I was in. Regardless, my inbox is always open. I don't quite understand your question. If you are interested in hiring on Fiverr, you simply create an account, find a suitable freelancer, give them the details for your project, pay them, and then within an hour to several days they'll send you their work. There's no need to do that, though. I've already hired a graphics designer to clean and vectorize your logo.

Many would argue there are few good Democrats left. I'd rather our movement not be divided by political affiliation. Our focus should only be on advancing the legal and social equity of boys and men - everything else ought to be fought for on another forum.

My point being that your history here does not inspire much confidence in your ability to rework RBOMI from a neutral perspective. It doesn't matter if you consult various camps before publishing a change because your biases will ultimately dictate what is and is not added. And that's generally fine. We would see that with any author. You just seem particularly adamant, which is problematic when leading a project of this sort. And note how my rant tone is different to my informative writing. I'l…

The intent of the RBOMI is to provide information from a completely neutral standpoint, in a way that does not alienate anybody reading it. That's an unrealistic objective, but an admirable one. So, who will ensure the input you accept is free of bias? And, as a pro-MRA feminist, how do you determine if the content featured alienates men's rights activists or MRM-leaning moderates? I love Dakru's writing because it is inoffensive and reasonable. Yours is decidedly not. "Being a profeminist MRA…

Dakru wrote RBOMI from a non-feminist gender egalitarian perspective. Would the neutrality of his work not be threatened by involving feminists and MRAs? Would an adversarial collaboration not better suit this type of project? How could you fairly judge changes as a self-described "pro-MRA feminist"?

I agree to an extent. I do not believe most here are interested in representing women as evil when they post, for instance, news articles reporting a woman's rape of a young boy. There are a great deal of people who are convinced women are morally superior to men by virtue of their sex, and even more people who will disregard the righteous majority to condemn all men because they only ever hear of a wicked minority. Rather than push to have the women are wonderful effect enter the public's consc…

You do realize your use of midwife is effectively discouraging men from entering the profession? Are you not interested in seeing other men succeed? Do you simply not give the slightest fuck if you kick men while they are down?
