This is the basics of it and applies to most divorces. If your situation is unusual, you probably should talk to a lawyer to sort it all out. In some jurisdictions you can separate your debts and assets however you want when you file together (joint petition.) If she hid the debt and you can prove fraud or illegal activity you might not be on the hook for it. On the flipside, if you married her under the pretense of paying off her debts or similar promise, or you've been together long enough tha…

Discipline will always win over motivation. I run 6 days a week. I have lots of motivations: I paid for a race that's coming up, I want to stay fit, I enjoy running, my friend is going with me, etc. etc. But some days it's really cold and rainy and I didn't sleep well and I'm sick I have an 18 miler and . . . blah, blah, blah . . . I just don't want to do it. But I go anyway. Just go. Think about whether you wanted to or not when you get back.

I have had it a lot easier than so many guys in this community. There's no money issues or custody fights. But getting past the emotional part of all of this has still been rough and hearing "There's life out there" was something I didn't know I needed to hear, but did. So, thank you for this little glimpse of a brighter future.

In the words of Sheryl Crow: "[Happiness is] not having what you want, It's wanting what you've got." Statistically, people aren't happier when they divorce for the wrong reasons, they stay the same or become more miserable, and you sound like you're all kinds of miserable.

I've been separated for about 6 weeks now and I've been on a few dates and had lots of interest and attention from potential partners. My wife's infidelity and subsequent rejection of reconciliation really did a number on my self-esteem and it's been nice to find out that women actually find me attractive and like my company and think I'm a good catch.

If they get together, they will make it official, but I'll include 'cohabitation' to make sure I'm covered.

Thanks, that's helpful. I'm not planning on a lump sum -- the chance that she'll remarry is high enough that I would be crazy to offer her anything more than a year or two of payments and she wouldn't go for that.

Like others are saying, there's a lot more to being fit and feeling confident in your body than attracting women. Being in good shape has a great side effect of attracting others to you -- and that's potential friends just as much as potential suitors, but it's so much more: You sleep better. You don't feel exhausted from just moving around. You fit into your clothes, into chairs, into airplane seats. You are sick less. You have fewer headaches. You handle stress better. You have decreased chanc…
