Yes, that is what matters. But because we are intelligent beings, we can look at trends and find correlation. People will follow leaders, as long as they know what they are doing. Since most leaders throughout human history have been men, isn't the conclusion that "men are more likely to know what they are doing in leadership positions" the correct one?
