My ex accused me of abuse through the divorce. We hardly ever fought during the marriage. It is so much easier being a victim than owning your role in a failed marriage. Being victim leaves room for sympathy from other people. You don’t have to explain anything. You can avoid tough situations.

I don’t think many people make it out of divorce thinking of themselves as a saint. It is a very humbling experience. If her AP partner is beating her then he is likely to put hands on your kids. You may want to get a restraining order against him.

I mean I guess. She deserves half of whatever you built together regardless of who she is with just like you do. If you have kids together then you are definitely having a warped view of the situation together

Sounds like we had very similar experiences. I had never considered that family would insert themselves so much into a divorce. Everyone in my family has been divorced at least once. My brother twice and my sister three times. I never inserted myself, I just helped when asked and stayed out of it. That was almost the worst part about divorce. I also tried to take the high road

Divorce gave me the wonderful gift of letting me know who exactly was my friend and had my back. The list became very small. Sometimes someone you are not close to steps up a lot. I had an employee be really supportive. She is a widow that had been through a divorce and her husband had divorced a previous wife and they were madly in love u til he passed of cancer. I keep giving her raises because she became almost like a stand-in mother. I had another person really empathize with me that was sur…

My ex’s selfishness was very revealing during the divorce. She put money before everything. Second to money was trying to destroy me. I felt guilty for divorcing her but the divorce itself made me realize that she lacks empathy and is a covert terrible person

It was two years of actual divorce. She tried to paint me as this horrible person for daring to divorce her. It was an emotional struggle. At times I did not think I was going to make it. I am sorry that you are going through that. If you need to talk feel free to dm me

The answer is “yes” it is par for the course. We spent $78,000 on a contentious divorce to have a judge decide things that I offered to her in the beginning. Her outcome was worse for going to court. They filed motion after motion. They filed motions to put me in jail for contempt because I bought our teen daughter a car during the divorce. She even subpoenaed my mother against me. In the end she got $14,000 less than what I offered. It was stupid and a waste of money.

I have a fiance. She is everything that I dreamed about. I can understand why other men would not want to. I was very jaded and felt undeserving of love. She has loved me nearly unconditionally. Marriage is not something I need to do. I see it more as a hobby. I want to do it. I enjoy it. I want to be good at it. I also only want to share it with the right person not just any person

I can relate to your story. I have been separated for two years and just finalized divorce. The guilt lessens with time. Like you I made mistakes. She was like your wife though…she thinks she can do no wrong and just focuses on my flaws.

I can empathize with the kids. The thing about studies is that they are not absolutes. They use populations and derive data from that. Maybe most kids (greater than 51%) feel that way but certainly not all kids feel that way. I have white boards on my fridge and when my kids are away I write my feelings about them or messages to them. They love seeing the messages. I gave them their space and worked with them to decorate it how they want it. When they come home after being away they have to pay …

I was in a deadbedroom for twenty years. I stayed for kids and for false hopes. I wish I had just divorced early on. I am far happier now. YMMV

I don’t like these subs but I have experiences that can lead to helpful advice. I desperately needed information and advice in the beginning. I am just here to share what I can

Just own it with the kids, apologize, and put effort into doing better. You are a human and flawed and that is ok. I apologize to my kids every time that I am wrong even if I realize it days after the fact. I tell them that I will put effort into doing better. Kids just want parents to be real with them and they will love you even more when you apologize and tell them that you were wrong

Why are you on this sub? Anger?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
