I know what you mean. Moving 40 minutes away from anyone I know and going hermit was eye opening to my own self sufficiency and resilience. Doesn't sound far, but in the midwest with friends that hate driving, I may as well moved continents. I've been going back and for a lot on being in a relationship. Biologically I want to be in a relationship. Mentally, I know it's a waste of time.

That actually sounds like a great time. Get lost in my Trans Am for a couple weeks. Theres a ton of places I'd love to spend a day or two in just to get the feel. Unfortunately my vacation time is all spoken for this year. All of my friends have decided to get married this summer. Dumb asses. I was looking into taking some kite surfing lessons here on the great lakes. And trying to get away for a weekend to put it into practice. I've been working on the brach bod, but haven't hit any beaches.

Actions have consequences. They may not be immediate or apparent. But the things you do catch up with you. Good or bad. It's the first thing i tell someone when the fucked up and come to me for advice. And i try to instill it in my nieces and nephews. One day it will all come back to you. And you most likely will not like the outcome.

I hear you man. All of my effort is on my exit. I basically work another full time job with my course load. But it will be so sweet when it's done. A nice side benefit though, for a college student in a college town i make great money. I just work too much to enjoy any of it.

I know a buddy that graduated from the same school as me and went into business for himself. 5 years later, the stress has destroyed him mentally and physically. And he is ready to sell the buisness and go back to being an employee.

I fall more into your camp of MGTOW. I would rather find the path of least resistance. Funny enough, i actually find most tradesman got into the trades because their grand daddy was the manliest man they ever saw man. And wanted to follow in his footsteps. No thoughts of their own to be had. Beautiful thing about MGTOW. I don't have to care what anyone else thinks as long as I am happy. But sometimes you want to help the young and impressionable from going down this "one size fits all" ideology.

This is the reality of the situation. Auto/diesel mechanics are a dying trade due to lack of interest and an aging work force. There are almost no mid level positions available, and the pay in most cases is under $18 an hour. Sure, i have met mechanics that make 100k after 15 plus years of experience. But bot a one of them has not had a major surgery due to work related injuries. I have played both sides of the fence, and will take my BA and work a cushy job making the same money and not beating…

You actually explained my situation to a T. went to a trade school to be a mechanic. and have very little debt compared to my peers. But, i am having a hard time finding a decent paying job in my city. I live in one of the biggest cities in the US, with one of the highest tax rates in the US. Ok, fair enough. I would agree that back when i was a tradesman i would have increased my living substantially by moving. But this is an expensive prospect when you're already struggling to make ends meet. I would be interested more in the average age of the pipefitters and plumbers making that wage. I am a journeyman welder auto and diesel mechanic. And no one i know make better the $35 an hour in any trade.

Wildly inaccurate. Even some of the most skilled tradesmen I've met don't make that kind of money after 20 years. Try to get into one of those apprenticeships with out being 18. Near impossible. And the competition is stiff. I know people with a "worthless degree" that make more then any tradesman.

Hate me all you want for saying this, but tradesmen typically don't make great money. The one's i do know making that kind of money started young, got lucky, and are quite talented. The first piece of advice when i started working after trade school was "you're young and seem pretty smart. Get the fuck out of this before your body is beat to shit." Trades are not the answer people seem to think they are.

What i also found interesting is when talking about a successful man, people will give credit to the wife. For example i was involved in a conversation where Vince McMahon was brought up. And an older man says "he's an idiot. His wife is the real brains of that operation". Or something to that affect. Even when discussing Ozzy Osborn i was told "Sharon really made his career what it is". Like ok people, lets not get carried away here.
