Lyrics Basically the song seems to be about how easy it is for men to get over a break up. That a guy can simply get drunk, lay around, or get laid and he no longer hurts. Or, even worse, that men "just switch it off every time they feel somethin". As if men do not have feelings or that they can just decide to not be heartbroken and sad. "When the going gets tough, yeah, the guys they can just act tough" should be more like "When the going gets tough, guys are forced to suppress their emotions b…

Yea, I highly doubt this group came all the way from Englewood and East Chicago up to Lincoln Park just for this. Especially during Chicago rush hour!

Honestly, I think the police/security made the right decision by not getting involved. Escorting the BLM ringleaders off the stage and/or cuffing them would have generated more anger and possible escalated the situation further. Sure, they were disruptive, but they weren't physically hurting anyone or doing damage to any property. Just let them burn themselves out.

Actually, I didn't hear of any injuries or severe property damage after this fiasco. I was on campus throughout this ordeal and after an hour or so it had died down quite a bit.

Possibly my favorite part is: Black ringleader: "I've been silenced for 200 years" Milo: "You don't look that old..."

I've gotta say, I DESPISE the way Milo Yiannopoulos conveys his message. He is a caricature in order to generate popularity. He constantly plays up the gay aspect of his life by ridiculing what his opponents wear and talking about having sex with their brothers. He intentionally provokes people because that is how he has generated such a following and popularity. Honestly, no one would have any clue who he is it if weren't for all the protests that follow him. It's a real shame too because when …

I liked that part actually. It seemed like a back door way of saying "give us your best because we are stronger than that and it will only bond us together and make us better"

The fact that this works both ways. Men and women tend to act like their peers of the same sex (it's just a basic part of psychological development). Why do women dress a certain way? Not because men tell them to, but because that is what is deemed acceptable by their peers.

Talk to the principle or a counselor about it and tell them you find it hurtful, disrespectful, offensive, and sexist. If they refuse to take of it, write a letter to the superintendent. If that doesn't do much write a letter to the Board of Trustees. They can't expel, suspend or give you detention for politely and respectfully expressing your discontent with something offensive. I absolutely agree, I meant it as such but didn't state it that way at all. Level of response should always be appropriate to level of danger, regardless of size, gender, age, etc. Obviously certain characteristics will make injury or death more likely so a more intense response would be appropriate (such as an elderly person being attacked vs a 20 year old). Regardless, the level of response should never exceed what is necessary to protect yourself or others.

Size and also the danger they present. If the person has any kind of weapon, you should assume they intend to use it to cause serious harm or death. A full on response resulting in severe injury(broken bones, concussions, rtc) to the attacker is justified. However, an unarmed assailant should be neutralized with minimal damage. This is where size is a factor, but it shouldn't justify a smaller victim beating g their assailant to an inch of death. In both situations, gender doesn't matter

Don't even need to do that. Apply pressure to the elbow, wrist, armpit, or thenar and there is no way she will be able to hold on. Twisting her wrist may look like you are trying to break it, grabbing and applying pressure will look like you are trying to keep things at a distance.

While you are correct that the man would get the book thrown at him and the woman would walk, that doesn't make the woman right. There are better ways to diffuse situations like this than coming to blows and causing serious harm.

Pressure points my friend. There are so many different pressure points on the arm that would have caused her to release his shirt and then he could have booked. She would have no visible injury nor any permanent injury. Her arm may be numb for about a minute but that is it. Most people wouldn't even notice it if done right. The other people are correct for telling him to not hit her. 1)Unfortunately, he would get fucked by the law. 2) Throwing a punch would escalate the situation. I understand that if the roles were reversed that the woman would have beat the shit out of the guy with no recourse; however, that does not make it ok for him to escalate the situation.

I know at my university there is 1 course about Men's issues; however, for gender studies majors this is an elective (the class never fills up). I think that this class should be MANDATORY and should be taught by someone outside of the department. What this article is saying is that these courses completely disregard biology and anatomy, not that society has no impact. Question: When is Rape Not Rape? Answer: When a Rapist Uses Her Vagina It also isn't rape when a man or woman uses their mouth or anus. While this doesn't affect the frequency of males being raped by being forced to penetrate, it does change the analysis of how often men and women are the perps. Edit: I stand corrected. Celda properly pointed out: For three of the other forms of sexual violence, a majority of male victims reported only female perpetrators: being made to penetrate (79.2%)

I'm having a hard time finding the study/survey for the fact: The 2009 United States National Crime Victimization Survey estimates, only 55% of rapes & sexual assaults were reported to law enforcement officials. When a male is raped, less than 10% are believed to be reported. Female-male & female-female rapes are ignored altogether in this survey. This genderratic website makes good points; however, their analysis of the CDC study is wrong. They assume that "Forced to penetrate" means only forced by females when the study clearly states: Among men, being made to penetrate someone else could have occurred in multiple ways: being made to vaginally penetrate a female using one’s own penis; orally penetrating a female’s vagina or anus; anally penetrating a male or female; or being made to receive oral sex from a male or female. I'll assume you are not a programmer as your /s did not have a <s>... Just playing. So far, we have had no male authors as well. One article stated that "If a man asks for custody of a child, he gets it in 60-80% of the cases". There was no research nor studies to back this claim up. The class (and professor) took this as truth and used said article as evidence of its truth. That completely befuddled me.

The whole sex vs gender thing still screws me up (mainly because I don't really pay much attention to it. People are people so it doesn't make a difference) so I just tried to be PC about it. You are lucky, reading the course descriptions and sample syllabi for the other courses clearly shows that they are women almost entirely focused on women. Men/masculinity has 1 class out of 30+ and are maybe a topic in a handful of others.

I have already noticed this. Family Services is really Mother Services, and so on. My girlfriend is a sociology major and points stuff like this out to me all the time.

Luckily I center most of my studies around cell and molecular biology. There is no discussion of gender there, just some proteins and phospholipid bilayers.

Lucky you! I do not think I am as lucky. Perfect example was yesterday in class when we were talking about "slut-shaming" and I brought up the fact that the same thing happens to men (there was an article about this on the front page yesterday too). Her response was (to paraphrase) 'That doesn't really happen to men, women have it WAY worse. Let's not get off topic'.

Clearly you didn't read the comments below that: You are absolutely correct and that is what I was trying to say in my response. I realize I failed to clarify that there are exceptions and that these exceptions should not be prevented from accomplishing the same things as the trend followers Edit: I have edited the comment you are responding to with this statement.

That is false. That list has writers, politicians, rulers, artists, etc. They are recognized because of their accomplishments. So according to your argument, these women did not accomplish anything as significant as men in their respective fields. Therefore, we are giving these women unjustified praise for their lesser accomplishments. So, to achieve equality of gender, these women should be removed from history because they are of no importance.

Every Gender Studies course is more or less Feminist Studies And here lies the problem. There are two genders (three if you also count transgender) and only ONE of them is being discussed in GENDER studies.

There is. I have used the appeal process before (I received a C- in a martial arts class despite being the only one to move up in rank through the martial arts governing body) but it is extremely professor favored. My evidence was substantial and irrefutable but I still had to work my way up the chain 4 different levels (past the Dean) to get the change I deserved. I will be putting a word in with the Dean ahead of time so that he doesn't think I am just whining to get a better grade.

Thank you for this contribution. I would love to see your website when it is done. I have remained respectful of everyone else's opinion in the class but have not been shown the same respect. I hope that my input with also widen the class as well as the minds of the people in the class.

I'm hoping it's an easy A, that's why I took the class. I'm a senior who is a science major so this class, in terms of context, is irrelevant. However, the grade is extremely important to me. As a pre-med student with an already struggling GPA I can't afford an unjustified C just because I disagree. Unfortunately, my schedule prevents me from changing out this course. I will be speaking to the Dean to express my concerns, that way he knows about them ahead of time so that it doesn't appear I am …

Examination of the international emergence of the field of womens studies; the achievements and limitations of scholarly work exploring oppression and discrimination based on sex and sex differences; the development of the category "gender" and its uses and abuses; and the relevance of changing understandings of the term "culture" for the study of women, gender, and/or sexuality across diverse historical periods, regions, nations, and societies. I'm a senior who is graduating in the spring so I do not want to rock the boat at this point simply because I can't financially afford to not graduate this year. I need the class because no others that meet the requirements for my graduation fit into my schedule. I am concerned about my grade in the class whether passing or not. My GPA isn't stellar as it is so I can't afford a C simply because I don't agree with the professor.

I have no issue with a professor interjecting their opinions, it's when they use their authority as the professor to squash those who disagree.
/r/MensRights11/09/12 07:57 PM

I'm going to assuming you are agreeing with the comment then. Haha. I have had a few teachers who remained objective and let everyone develop their own opinions. The discussion and debate in those classes were AMAZING. In the classes where the professor doesn't accept disagreement as understanding, the discussions are basically people regurgitating the readings.

As someone who went to a Catholic highschool and does not really agree with much the Catholic Church has to say, I can definitely confirm this. I was a straight A student in all Honors and AP courses but would often get a C in religion because I "didn't understand the material". I put in a complaint my freshman year to the Dead and Chair of the department and received an A for the next 3 years. And yes, there are definitely teachers that are exceptions. Hell, one of my religion teachers ENCOURAG…

Right, blacks can say "Nigger" and call whites "Crackers" or "Whitey", but if a white person does the same they are automatically a part of the KKK or something. Also, IIRC women aren't a minority by any means....

I don't understand why it is considered sexist to recognize that most men and women are better at different things. For example, psychologically speaking, men are better at mental 3D rendering than women which makes men better at things like engineering, mechanics, etc. Women are, again psychologically speaking, better at interpersonal relationships making them better at things like Administrative Assistance (being PC on that one annoys me), childcare workers, etc. Edit: I realize I failed to cl…

I feel like that statement is a generalization. There ARE feminists who are logical. One girl in my class is a clear feminist, but is both logical and respectful in her discussion.

Thank you.

While there is ONE class in the Gender Studies department called "Constructions of Masculinity" the rest either use the neutral "Gender" or are strictly about feminism. I do believe this class (along with all the others) are extremely misrepresented and not true to their names and course description. It angers me that this is the 101 class, it serves as the basis for ALL other gender studies courses at the university and is blatantly biased.
