If you hate dating, don't do it. You're clearly not ready, anyway. We don't expect athletes back on the field the day after a broken leg, we don't expect the broken hearted to go on dates during their recovery. Take time for yourself, work on the things you like about you. Work out. Get better at your job. Take up birdwatching or welding or macrame. Hang out with friends. Heal. There's no hurry. Do the things that bring you joy and success. Find peace. The dating scene will still be there when y…

Toxic masculinity has negative effects on men, too. Some of them are the things you describe: a culture of violence, lack of empathy, prohibitions against emotional vulnerability, those are all things we're conditioned to believe are right and good, but they're not. Working our way out of that conditioning takes time. If you're not finding support from people in your social sphere when you look for it, it's worth considering how and with whom you're having those conversations. Sometimes people w…

Well stop looking at her online presence, for a start. Reading between the lines here, it sounds like this might not be an entirely healthy infatuation. You mention that your sister knows more about the situation than we do, and she'll be livid if she finds out you've been doing this. If you have a good relationship with your sister, I might consider just being honest with her about it. Tell her what you're feeling and that you don't want to feel like this, but you're having trouble. She will pr…

These kinds of issues are why professionals exist. You wouldn't ask your friend to amputate your leg for you, you shouldn't expect them to fix your mental health, either. Go to a counselor. Find a professional who is trained and qualified to address what you're dealing with. I understand that it's difficult and can be uncomfortable. Finding the right psychiatrist or therapist often takes a number of tries with a number of different people. There is no more shame in going to a mental health profe…

Leaving aside the actual gender reversal argument, it's worth being able to consider when having that conversation might be helpful or not. Trying to do it in the wake of a tragic and untimely loss isn't the time. It sounds like you realized that, and are trying to make amends. That is good. Knowing when to call it quits and take a step back is also good. Having the awareness and humility to admit when you're out of line is a great trait to have. Hopefully the next step is being able to assess w…

The first step is getting past your own roadblocks. Make the decision to be honest with yourself about where your frustrations come from. Seek professional counseling if you need to. Choose to look for the best in people. It may be that some in your life don't see being radically honest and radically caring as a good move, but those people are the same ones holding you back. But also, figure out the difference between sharing and oversharing. Kicking back with a couple homies and speaking on you…
