Married 25 years. at 50, she decided she wanted to pretend she was 20 again. I came home one day from a Dr. appointment and told her they thought I had cancer. She screamed at me and the next day she came out and said she wasn't taking care of me and wanted a divorce (she's a medical prof so I'm guessing she called some medical friends and they confirmed my diagnosis that night. Back then you could access records on computer easily). I tried everything to keep the marriage together but long stor…

I'm coming up on 10 years since we last talked in person (the closing on our house we sold) and will be divorced 10 years in September. I did everything I could to keep the marriage of 25 years together all while she did everything she could to destroy it. I finally gave in. Fortunately our two children were adults although she sabotaged them and I have seen them maybe 3 times in the 10 years. It took me about 3 years to get to a point where I didn't want to go home and realized I didn't want to…

Yeah, not what anyone expects. My daughter was pissed but has since sorta made up with mom. The ex is remarried. She thought guys were gonna beat down the door to get to her..they did not so she finally had to settle for the one guy that came along..he's shorter than me. way less educated than me, makes way less money than me and is definitely nowhere as good looking as me (and I'm not that great in my opinion)..all of that information came from several women that work with her that I know. It h…

I feel for you. Basically the same thing happened to me. 2015, I come home and tell her the doctors think I have cancer and she screams at me and later comes out and says she wants a divorce because she's not taking care of me. I then find out she was having an affair with 4 different guys in our town. One was the ex boyfriend of my oldest daughter. She wanted a divorce and when I told her I still loved her, she looked at me and said "I never loved you, you were just a convenience" and then she …

57 when my divorce went down. She got a huge lump sum from me and totally destroyed my retirement. I worked an extra 6.5 years to get back to somewhere I could retire. I'm 65 now and no I don't have the retirement i worked for for 40 years but it's simpler and I enjoy myself. That's the key. And DO NOT be one of these idiots that runs out and remarries. Enjoy yourself...trust me...you are your best friend!

Divorced at 57 and it came out of the blue. Everything paid off and less than a year from retirement when she decided she didn't want to take care of me after my cancer diagnosis and she wanted to pretend she was 21 again instead of 51. The financial impact was devastating. I ended up working another 7 years until I finally did retire. I thought I was ruined also but some hard work and I've gotten to a point where I can enjoy myself. Nowhere near what I should have had in retirement but I do wha…

I'm on year7+ since divorce. Recap... I was 9 months from retirement and everything was paid off. Had everything all planned out for a great retirement. Then out of the blue, everything is gone. She was 52 wanting to pretend she was 25 again. I was also diagnosed with cancer and she screamed at me and said she wasn't taking care of me. Yeah, a real sweetheart. Anyways, lots of counseling and the bouts of depression still pop up but you need to work thru it. Make your son the priority. As some ha…

Her infidelity was uncovered however unlike some states, that cannot be used in PA. If I had brought it up at any point, she could have sued me and would have won according to my lawyers.

No, I laugh every day. Just sad a spouse and can do that to you after being married for so long. And then be proud of it and brag. At least we did get our two daughters college paid for. The one good thing.

I didn't give her anything... the Pennsylvania Courts and Divorce Court favor women. They want you to fight the settlement so the lawyers get rich. I know two friends that fought for 10+ years spending upwards of $50K on lawyers only to finally settle for what their Ex would have gotten on day one of the divorce. It's all a racket, at least in PA.

My retirement account was accumulated over 30+ years of investing some of each paycheck (usually 10%) and not touching it. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds which were all part of my IRA. and 401K. No inheritance...just hard work. I did work 7 years more than I had planned to get enough to barely live on. Due to health problems, I can no longer work.

I was divorced at almost 57 after 25+ years. Came out of the blue. We were preparing for retirement which I would have done at 57. I had the House paid off, both cars paid off (hers was 2 years old, mine 16 years old which I always drove mine into the ground so she could have new cars), $150K in the bank, $1.4 million in my retirement account, and a pension. She decided she wanted to be 25 again (running, gym, etc to lose weight) and the day I came home and told her the doctor thought I had canc…
