That’s easily proven false. If a father lets his child starve, thats child neglect. Which is illegal, and that would mean he would have to have some Legal obligation towards his children being fed. A father also has legal responsibilities of health/wellness of a child. For example a child is gravely Ill/ has a serious condition that is easily treatable but greatly impacts their function, and a father refuses all help for the child. The father is charged with child endangerment. See the pattern h…

Did you even read what you just linked ? You read the first sentence and was “yup this is it, the first result of my biased search yielded my answer” only 31 states have laws about the subject matter, and most of those only apply to parents that cannot take care of themselves because of massive injury or dementia/Alzheimer’s, and only really applies to children with a net income of 100,000 dollars. You really are an idiot(not something I commonly call people) because you assume that the father f…

I've said multiple times this was a terrible enforcement of this law, and that the fact there is not a "circumstances out of an individual's control" is a big oversight. In general the bill does a good job, but this scenario its abhorrent.

I do not support either gender abandoning their children, I do support a fathers or mothers individual decision to put up for adoption. With 2 parties involved both most be in the affirmative to put up for adoption. Abortion is a bit tricky but I do support it (YMMV) for me the (thing?) is a person when it Matures into a fetus. So after that time I do not. And I don’t think another person should have input on a person before they are one, because that’s a tricky thing. Essentially it’s let’s the…

Then draw that line in the sand for me right now. Show me it was intentional because the answer is easy or possible.

If a parent spends their last dollars on their children to fulfill their basic needs and goes massively in debt to raise their children, thus supporting them then that means the other parent has no financial responsibilities? You don’t even ask the quality of support or the amount of support provided?

Being a man really has nothing to responsibility, being a parent does. Gender should have no basis in law (with the exception being in regard to and interacts with gendered anatomy). I’ll probably make a post about the troubling mindset expressed in this thread later.

People can argue whether it’s fair for both individuals to be subject to it, but in terms of this subreddit that aligns with its ideals of equal application of the law baseless of gender

I agree, it is a HUGE oversight. Things so far out of your control should not be counted against you. A good question that probably didn’t get an answer when this bill was created(which is why it’s not in it) is where the line is drawn as out of your control.

People who realize that children should not be held to their parent(s) mistakes/faults. Not saying in it’s current state it’s perfect but from what use to hold its place it’s a step up in terms of forcing financial responsibility for a child.

It’s wrong by the mother to spend the money on her, there should be some form of tracking of where the payments are spent, however i think you are missing the bigger picture on the outcome. Your child didn’t choose what she did either. A child should not be held accountable for faults of the parent(s). I do empathize with your situation though, from your description she seems like a garbage human being

I disagree with the premise of that planning for future unlikely disasters as a expectation because then it’s like saying you should plan to be in a coma for a year and have some issuance on your payment, but I agree with the premise you still have a responsibility to pay for your child if you are not involved in their lives “not saying that the process was fair, saying if it was or if it was by choice”.

How do i plan on helping a man who left a wife, baby daughter and young child? A man who instead of buying formula and food for his children instead spent most of it on beer and gambled the rest at the racetrack? That’s so ass backwards I don’t even know where to begin. I didn’t create my father, my father created me. The amendment was aimed at providing for the children that were sowed so that 2 parents would have a legal financial responsibility towards their children. A contract as you will. …

To those being overly critical of the Bradley amendment. My father owed much much more to my mother in child support and one of the most frustrating things was knowing whatever money he had went immediately to gambling and drinking and not a dime to actually paying child support. That amendment was the only thing that even gave us a smidgen of money from him because it allowed his paycheck to be garnished. However for someone to be put in jail because of the Bradley act when the inability to mak…
