Having a longer maternity leave would allow a mother to spend an adequate amount of time with their child in the first year without losing their job. 3 months in not enough time to recover from having a child, and children need more that 3 months of 1 on 1 time with their parents. It is not an equivalent, kiddo, because males know that they will only have to put in those hours for a certain period of their life, while women have to wonder if they will ever be considered hire-able again. I know I might get discuss, but I remember recently hearing something about that it's not actually that their is a pay gap, but women have a harder time getting/keeping jobs because of issues regarding having children and families, which ends up causing them to earn less overall.
