Are you referencing that creator's other videos or something? In this video he talks about men's mental health being a burden for women to deal with. Which I don't totally agree with. But I don't know where you're getting the other stuff from. If you have seen other videos with the same guy where he says/implies those things, then I agree that's bad. But still - he can be a hypocrite and believe what he's saying. Having internally inconsistent thoughts and beliefs is different from being a grift…

I mean, the most egregious examples of influencer grifting that have come to light have been rightwing. I don't know that I agree with the statement that the cultural left has more hollow and performative cultural beliefs than the right overall. Maybe in certain aspects, but I think there's a lot of nuance to consider. The TikTok creator in the video seems to believe what he's saying. His videos are carefully crafted and formatted to do well on TikTok, and are kind of fluffy as a result, but tha…

I think the issue is in seeing grifting as a black-and-white issue. I see it as part of a broader "Pandering scale". Which is the degree to which content creators will say and do things that don't exactly reflect their own opinions/interests for the purpose of growth/money. Streaming a video game that is popular but you don't particularly like is on the near end of the scale. That's pretty innocent and understandable in my opinion. People often have to slightly misrepresent themselves in daily l…

This kind of EvoPsych stuff tends to be unreliable in general. Like even the researchers dedicated to the topic tend to let their own biases affect their interpretations. And there's controversy at the academic level. Once the research trickles down to the uneducated masses and is filtered through even more heavily biased lenses, it's pretty foolish to accept it without a big grain of salt. The OOP is clearly using these faux-scientific concepts to justify their preconceived notions.

There are a surprising number of people who don't accept the basic idea of separating the art from the artist. Like of course there is nuance over the topic of paying money for the art and doing other things which support the artist. But I still find myself regularly defending/explaining the basic idea that there can be any separation at all. It seems like the kind of thing that any somewhat intellectual person should understand by high school or college, but apparently it is not.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
